Afterschool Programs Celebrate October 22

Utah Lights On! Afterschool Celebration

On October 22, the Utah Afterschool Network (UAN) and Nebo School District will be participating in the first annual statewide Lights On! Afterschool! Celebration in keeping the lights on and doors open during non-school hours. Nebo will be one of more than 7,500 sites across the nation sending the message that Afterschool programs is key to our youth's success. Currently, there are five schools with 4-H after school programs in Nebo District.

Past Shadow Mountain Directors Honored at School Board Meeting

Past and present directors of Shadow Mountain Camp, still employed in the Nebo School District, were honored recently at a meeting of the School Board. Shadow Mountain Camp is for boys and girls who have just completed the fifth grade. The camp provides educational and recreational experiences for the students in a beautiful mountain setting up the left fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. The camp was begun in the early 1970’s on donated land. The first campers slept in pup and spring bar tents on the mountain meadow. Later, under the direction of the district, the Army Corp.

Nebo Notable - Brent Shurtliff

Brent Shurtliff

Brent Shurtliff is currently employed in the Maintenance department as a Flooring specialist. Brent has worked for Nebo School District since June 1989.

At Payson High School, Brent Shurtliff is the Head Softball coach. He is doing a fantastic job with the team. He gladly gives many, many, many hours of his time to the program. He is also the voice of Payson High School. He announces at the home football, boys and girls basketball games and volleyball and wrestling matches. He also runs the music for all of those activities.

KSL Radio and Zions Bank honored Becky Newton, fourth-grade teacher at Taylor Elementary in Payson, for the “Teacher Feature” program this past week. This program was developed to recognize outstanding teachers who have gone the extra mile, not only in the classroom, but who have also made a significant impact on many young lives.

Sage Creek Presents to School Board

On Wednesday, September 9, 2009, Sage Creek Elementary had the opportunity to highlight it’s student council election process to the Nebo Board of Education. Sixth-grade student, Shae Christensen, talked about why she wanted to be on the student council at Sage Creek. She was followed by student council advisor, Janeen Scott, who spoke about the requirements necessary to and the service provided by the Sage Creek student council.
