Utah Basic Skills Competency Test

Beginning in 2004, all Utah high school sophomores are required to take and pass the Utah Basic Skills Competency Test (UBSCT) in order to receive their high school diploma. Between their sophomore and senior years, students will have five opportunities to take the test.

There are three sections to the test: Mathematics, Reading and Writing. All three sections must be passed in order to pass the UBSCT. Once students pass a section, they need not retake that section.

Achievement on each test is measured in four levels. Levels 3 and 4 are considered passing. Levels 1 and 2 are not.
