Biology - Agriculture Science and
Technology
The Biology Core has three major concepts for the focus of instruction:
(1) the structures in all living things occur as a result of necessary
functions. (2) Interactions of organisms in an environment are
determined by the biotic and abiotic components of the environment.
(3) Evolution of species occurs over time and is related to the
environment in which the species live.

Animal Science and Technology, Entry
Students will be exposed to a wide range of scientific principles,
such as genetics, anatomy, physiology/nutrition, disease, pests,
and management practices. The scientific processes of observation,
measurement, hypothesizing, data gathering, interpretation, analysis,
and application
are stressed. Career opportunities and educational preparation
are examined. Learning activities are varied, with classroom,
laboratory, and field experiences emphasized.

Animal Science and Technology, Advanced
Students will be introduced to equine science and production
management and poultry science and production management. They
will be exposed to the management practices associated with the
handling of animal waste, livestock breeding and genetics, and
the importance of anatomy and physiology in animal management
practices. They will also be introduced to the practices associated
with small animal care.

Agriculture Systems Technology
Students will learn basic skills related to the mechanical activities
involved with agricultural production and service. Instruction
includes field and laboratory application of the concepts taught.
Students will develop skills in the areas of working hot and cold
metal, tool reconditioning, plumbing, painting, bill of materials,
small gas engines, and basic welding. Emphasis will be placed
on safety and proper use of tools and equipment.

Natural Resources
Students will participate in activities that include instruction
on the importance of production management and conservation of
our natural resources, ecology, and fish and wildlife. Field and
laboratory experiences will be emphasized.
