Course Descriptions:
American Sign Language (ASL) level
1
American Sign Language - Level One (Two-semester class, .5 per
semester)
This course is an introduction to the language with emphasis on
basic communication skills, ASL grammar and vocabulary, the history
of ASL and Deaf culture. Successful completion of this class,
as well as passing the Utah State Board of Education ASL Level
One Exam, will allow the student to fill the university level
one foreign language requirement.

American Sign Language, (ASL) level
2
American Sign Language - Level Two (Two-semester class, .5 per
semester)
This course is a continuation of level one, with more emphasis
placed on ASL grammar, history and Deaf culture. The majority
of the class time will be spent in the target language. Successful
completion of this class, as well as passing the Utah State Board
of Education ASL Level Two Exam, will allow the student to fill
the university level two foreign language requirement. Prerequisite:
Pass ASL Level 1 with a C or better.

Exercise Science/Sports Medicine
This full-year course is designed to teach students components
of exercise science/sports medicine including exploration of therapeutic
careers, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, first aid,
injury prevention, the healing process, rehabilitation techniques,
therapeutic modalities, sport nutrition, sport psychology, and
performance enhancement philosophies.

Intro to Health Science
This class is highly recommended for those individuals interested
in a medical career. This course will cover such topics as: Medical
terminology, First Aid, Sports Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine,
Reproduction, Death education, Physical Therapy, and Dental Assistant.
Students will also have the opportunity to spend out of class
time in some of these professions.

Intro to Emergency Medical Services
This course teaches advanced first-aid skills and prepares for
the American Red Cross
certification exam, as well as develops an interest in medical
and health related fields. Students will develop knowledge in
terminology, injury assessment, evaluation, bandaging techniques,
professional level CPR, oxygen administration, childbirth, and
Automatic External Defibrillation.

Medical Anatomy and Physiology
This full-year program provides students with an in-depth study
of health care careers including actual clinical experience in
a variety of areas. Instruction includes intermediate anatomy
& physiology, medical terminology, diseases and disorders,
medical ethics and first aid. The class is designed to prepare
students for Advanced Health Science courses and/or for a variety
of health technology programs. Suggested Prerequisite: Introduction
to Health Science and Technology or Biology
