Utah Valley Student of the Week- Rachel Wasden

Diamond Fork Junior High School News - Mon, 10/02/2017 - 2:27pm

On paper, Rachel Wasden, a ninth-grader at Diamond Fork Jr. High School, has a 4.0 GPA, takes multiple honors classes and loves to work hard. For two years now, Rachel has been selected to help tutor math other students in other grades. She is part of the National Junior Honor Society and has been on the tennis team for the past several years, most recently being on the varsity second singles team. She maintains a creative photography account on Instagram @Rachel_joy_photos.

But honestly, Rachel’s strengths aren’t necessarily the types of things that are easy to list. She has a gift for seeing everyone as individuals to be loved and enjoyed, whether they be an infant, child, peer or adults. When the Wasdens moved from New Jersey four years ago, their neighbors took Rachel to dinner to say goodbye because even at 9 years old, she was a genuine friend to them. She looks for ways to help students and teachers and likes to lighten the mood with a quick sense of humor.

Diamond Fork Junior High School News - Mon, 10/02/2017 - 2:26pm

Mandy Young, a teacher at Diamond Fork Jr. High School in Spanish Fork, has been selected as the Daily Herald Educator of the Week.

Miss Young currently teaches seventh grade science, though she has taught ninth grade biology and earth systems in the past.

Miss Young is one of the advisers for the National Junior Honor Society and is the PTA teacher representative for her school.

“Welcome to the BEST class ever!” That’s what you will hear if you are lucky enough to be in Miss Young’s science class.

Miss Young really is amazing. She always has the best interests of her students in mind. Mandy comes early and stays late to Diamond Fork Jr. High. Miss Young always goes the extra mile. She is continually improving on her lesson plans and does her best to make each student in her classroom feel great about themselves. Not only can you find her happy smile and quick wit in her classroom, but she is always ready to lend a hand in the office, at school activities, and in the hallways. She is a blast to work with and Diamond Fork Jr. High is lucky to have her as a science superhero!

Eagle Eye on Miss. Nielson

Rees Elementary News - Mon, 10/02/2017 - 1:47pm

Miss Nielson joins us this year in the 3rd grade.  She is the middle child with two older brothers and two younger half brothers.  Her bucket list includes learning to play the violin, finishing the book Unbroken, and seeing the Lion King on Broadway.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking in the mountains and reading.  She claims the strangest talent she has is reading a book and running at the same time.  It's no surprise with all the reading she does that she loves to teach guided reading to her students.  She also loves Babe Ruth candybars and would choose to eat at Zupas or Cafe Rio.  Miss Nielson is very kind and sweet natured.  We have loved having her at Rees Elementary this year.
