As one of the top 300 MASTERS, Ammon will receive a one year subscription to Science Newsmagazine, a leather bound innovation journal courtesy of The Lemelson Foundation, a one year subscription to Wolfram Desktop software, a Broadcom MASTERS decal, back pack and semifinalist ribbon. The teacher that Ammon listed in his application will receive a one year subscription to Science News magazine and a Broadcom MASTERS reusable grocery tote. This prize will be sent directly to your school over the next few weeks.
The next step in the Broadcom MASTERS takes place on September 20, 2017 when 30 finalists will be selected from the top 300 MASTERS. Finalists and one parent or guardian will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to attend the Broadcom MASTERS Finals Week competition from October 20-24, 2017. Finalists will present their research and compete in hands-on challenges for top prizes, including funds to attend a STEM summer camp, iPads, and the Samueli Prize of $25,000.

The Brookside PTA is getting ready to kick off the reflections theme for this year: WITHIN REACH. Please find the forms you will need here. This year you will only need one form for all the categories. All projects will be due Friday, September 29th. This is for all students here at Brookside: Kindergarten thru 6th grade.

Sixth Grade Orchestra Program
Objective: To teach each member of the class the beginning essential techniques necessary to play their respective stringed instruments well. Daily practice will assist each student to succeed. For beginning string players, 20-30 minutes 5-6 days per week is recommended.
Instrument: Violins, violas, cellos and String Basses can be rented through Summerhays Music (Orem) (801) 226-1760, Bert Murdock Music (Orem) (801) 225-7922, Mountain Rock Music (Springville) (801)489-3000, Bill Harris Music (Provo) (801) 374-1440, Charles Liu (Midvale) (801) 255-9636 or Boothe Brothers Music (Spanish Fork) (801)798-7650. Currently the district is very low on inventory so unless you’ve already talked to me about rentals, you will need to look elsewhere.
Keep your eye on KSL.com Online Classifieds or Craigslist as well. There are dozens of instruments being sold all the time, sometimes for the same price or less than a school rental. I am always on the lookout for good deals and can help you find them.
Parent/Student Meeting: A parent/student meeting will take place at 8:30 am on Friday, September 15, 2017. At least one parent should attend.
Other Purchases and Fees: Every student needs a copy of Method Book: Measures of Success, Book 1 for their chosen instrument. There is a one time tuition fee of $75 for the year.
Classes are every Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday. 8 am SHARP. The first day of class will be Monday September 18th. That week we will have a Friday class. The following week we will only have class on Monday and Wednesday. Please bring your Method Book and Instrument EVERY REHEARSAL.

Spanish Oaks had the pleasure of welcoming an amazing guest to our school today ... Donald Davis is a longtime Timpanogos Storytelling Festival favorite and has performed on some of America’s most prestigious stages including at the Smithsonian, National Storytelling Festival, and World’s Fair. Donald has also appeared on PBS, NPR, CNN, and ABC. An award-winning artist, Donald has recorded over thirty albums and written eighteen books. What an amazing opportunitity for students and teachers, alike ... Thank you for sharing your talent, Mr. Davis!

Picture Day: Thursday, September 7th will be our picture day! We will have class pictures and individual pictures taken by Lifetouch Photography. Your child should have brought home a packet with information about packages to purchase. Please call the office if you have any questions!
District Minimal Day: On September 18th, the students will be dismissed at noon so that teachers can attend school training. We appreciate your support for these types of trainings.
PTA Help: Our PTA does so many great things for our school and we love parents helping inside the classrooms! Parent helpers make such a big difference for our students! Our PTA sponsored Scholastic book fair will be held Tues, Sept. 26 - Thurs, Sept. 28, 2017 in the small faculty room next to the Little Theater. Book Fair hours will be Tues. and Wed. 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thurs. 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.through Parent Teacher Conferences. All money earned will buy more books for the your student's classroom. Friday morning basketball runs from 6:00am until about 7:20am. All 7th,8th, or 9th grade boy or girl is invited to come and play. Talk to Coach Johnson with any questions.
There will be a meeting for the fall hike on Wednesday Sept. 6th during pack time in the upstairs gym.
All cross-country students should have their uniform orders turned in by Tuesday the 5th and other paperwork done as soon as possible. Practices start after school on the 5th as well.
All those trying out for tennis must have their packet filled out and physical completed ASAP.
PTA believes that all children deserve opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts. Reflections began in 1969 and has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Last year, one of our student's entries made it to the state level.
Our Theme this year is "Within Reach". We are looking for original works of art in photography, dance choreography, literature, visual art, 3-D art, film production, and music composition. Please have your entries to the office by Monday, October 23 at 3:00.

Dance EXTRA is about to BEGIN!
4th, 5th, and 6th graders can learn dances from around the world on Monday Morning(s) from 8:00 a.m.-8:45 a.m. If you have multiple students in the upper grades, please fill out this form for each student.
Classes will begin on Monday, September 19, 2017. We will have an evening performance for the students to show off their stuff on Thursday, December 15, 2017 from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. There will also be a performance for the school on Friday, December 16, 2017 during the school day. Let's dance!

We are so excited to announce Cherry Creek's 1st Annual Student Art Show! This event is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Elementary PTA and will be taking place of Reflections. The theme for this year is "Under the BIG Top". Art pieces can be turned in from the following categories: Photography, Poetry, 2-D/3-D Visual Art (items no bigger than a shoe box please), Drawing, Painting, and Collage. Art needs to be turned in to the office by Tuesday, September 19th. All of the artwork will be displayed at this year's school carnival which will be taking place on September 22, from 5:00-8:00 PM. More details on the carnival will come but mark your calendars now! We can not wait to see all of the talent and imagination that will be showcased this year!

Our amazing MNJHS LIA and Student Council members particpated in the Payson Onion Days parade this week. Students delighted parade watchers by cooling them down with a few squirts of water. (Faculty & staff members in the audience may have received a few extra squirts!) These students exemplify leadership and dedication at MNJHS. We were excited to help our students Be The Change and Hear The Roar! Go MNJHS!

This week is our membership and donations drive. The top two classes that have returned the envelope and flyers by Friday September 8th will receive donuts in their first period class. The funds raised are used to provide dinners for teachers during Parent Teacher Conferences, Teacher Appreciation week and grants for teachers to buy what their students need. Last year we gave $400 in teacher grants. The grants purchased books, sewing supplies a projector and much more.
