KIDS have the power to make a positive difference.  Please join the Kid Power committee at Brockbank Elementary to change the world.  Our project this year is to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.  This is the type that mostly affects children.  There are children in our school that deal with this disease.

Each grade will bring money to donate. All paper and silver coins in their cans will count for that grades total.  All the pennies put in that grade level can, will subtract from their total.  So put pennies in another classes can to stop them from beating your grade.  Put the silver and paper money in your class can to increase your total.  This is called a Penny War.  Our penny war will help find a cure for juvenile Diabetes.

We will start our penny war on February 20 and go through March 9 .  The grade level with the heaviest can on Feb 23 will get to have a dance party.  The grade level with the heaviest can on March 2 will get to run someone through their whip cream gauntlet.  The grade level that raises the most money by March 9 will get to have a flour bomb war. Start earning money to make a difference.

Congratulations to Mrs. Alexandra Dedrickson for receiving "Brockbank's Teacher of the Year". Alexandra teaches fifth grade at Brockbank. She and her husband live in Spanish Fork. They have three daughters, one son, and four grandchildren (with one more on the way).

Alexandra is an awesome teacher. She loves teaching and it shows. She goes the extra mile in her teaching. She has a great sense of humor and makes learning fun! Her theme days are talked about by former students years after being in her class.  In her spare time Alexandra loves shopping, making homemade cards, watching her son run track and cross country, but most of all spending time with her family! She combines two of her loves by shopping for her grandkids!  At Brockbank Alexandra is considered our "Christmas Elf". She is obsessed with Christmas including watching all the Hallmark Christmas movies.  Alexandra has been teaching for 33 years, 22 of those years here at Brockbank. She also taught for 11 years at Brookside before coming to Brockbank. She has taught first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grades and for nine years she helped students as a reading recovery teacher. She is a great teacher and so fun to work with!  She is retiring at the end of the school year and she will be greatly missed!

FYI:  I want to let you know that we recently had a “shelter in place” drill.  This type of drill is for us to practice in case there were to be some sort of leak that would be hazardous to our air quality.   I want you to be aware that we try to practice a safety drill once a month.

Math Lab:  Just a reminder that we have our Math Lab opened in the mornings before school, at 8:30.  Any student is welcome to come and practice math facts, use the online REFLEX program, or get help with math assignments!

Brockbank kindergarten students celebrated making it through "100 days of school". To celebrate this achievement they had a fun filled day of activities centered around the number 100. They enjoyed counting 100 objects, taking a 100 step walk, doing 100 exercises, completing 100 seconds of silence (at least tried to), and discussing what they could eat 100 of. One of the funniest activities of the day was the students got to use their imagination and bring a poster with 100 collections to share with the other students. There was some pretty creative posters. Students really learned a lot about the number 100 and had a lot of fun in the process!

Brockbank First Graders Celebrated 100 Days of School

Brockbank Elementary celebrated "100 Days of School!" Students celebrated this day in several different ways. First-graders used the number 100 in math skills like counting and place value; they wrote down 100 words that they have learned how to read and write this year; they drew pictures of what they would look like if they were 100 years old; they made cool glasses to wear; and they named 100 things you can eat and 100 things you cannot eat. Another activity was the teachers asked the students, "If you had $100, how would you spend it?" If was interesting to hear what some of the first-graders would spend their money on. First-graders also celebrated 100 day by pretending to be the "Serviceable Sweet Candy Company". They counted and bagged 100 treats and delivered those treats around the school and sang "Happy 100 Day, to You!" The students really learned a lot and had fun doing it!

Brockbank Fourth Grade Students Learn About Water Pollution

Monday, January 29, fourth grade students participated in a storm water presentation. They learned all about the "villains" that we put into out storm drains, and how they affect our clean drinking water. They also learned ways to help keep our water clean.

The students took turns adding some of those villains to our drinking water. Some villains include oil, grass clippings, gas, paint, soap, and fertilizer. In the end, we had "Pollution Punch". Students were encouraged to remind their parents of steps they can take to help keep our drinking water clean.   If you have a fourth grader ask them about some of these villains, and how you can do your part to help prevent water pollution!
