Fourth Grade Students Learn About Storm Water

Thursday, Sept 13, fourth grade students participated in a storm water presentation. They learned all about the "villains" that we put into out storm drains, and how they affect our clean drinking water. They also learned ways to help keep our water clean.

The students took turns adding some of those villains to our drinking water. Some villains include oil, grass clippings, gas, paint, soap, and fertilizer. In the end, we had "Pollution Punch". Students were encouraged to remind their parents of steps they can take to help keep our drinking water clean.   If you have a fourth grader ask them about some of these villains, and how you can do your part to help prevent water pollution!

Brockbank First Graders Learn About Friendship by Reading Book, Enemy Pie

Tue, 09/18/2018 - 7:52am

(more pictures available)

Brockbank first-graders read the book, "Enemy Pie" written by Derek Munson about a boy whose summer is ruined when Jeremy Ross moves in and becomes number one on the enemy list. Fortunately, for the boy his father has a secret recipe for a pie that is guaranteed to help get rid of enemies. While his Dad works on mixing the ingredients and baking the pie, he explains that his son's role in the plan is that he needs to spend a day with his enemy. Even worse, he has to be nice to him. It sounds tough, but the boy decides to give it a try. After spending the day throwing water balloons at the girls, playing basketball, and hiding out in the tree house, he decides that Jeremy is not so bad after all. There's still the problem of the pie. The boy is worried about giving Jeremy the pie but the pie ends up being delicious. This is a fun story where one little boy learns an effective recipe for turning a best enemy into a best friend. Enemy Pie is a great lesson in friendship. First-graders got to share their own "enemy pie" made with pudding, chocolate chips, and gummy worms.

Hello, Brockbank Families!

Today was our first BFF activity!  BFF stands for Brockbank Friends and Family!  Once a month we participate in our BFF Groups, where the students are placed in multi-aged groups and we discuss lots of life-skill type activities.  This year we are focusing on being a Leader of our Own Learning!  Our hope is that our students will learn that they need to take responsibility for their learning and their goals!  Ask your child about the activities that we did today, as well as what our sunrise and our path means to our students!

Picture Day: I hope you are ready for picture day tomorrow, September 11th, and that your child brought home a packet to remind you!

Reflections:  We are so excited for our Reflections Contest that is going on NOW!  The theme is, “Heroes Around Me!” Please encourage your child to get involved and participate in this fun event!  We want to thank Cindy Shepherd for helping us with this, and if you have any questions, please contact her at eggmomma@gmail.com.

Minimal Day:  Monday, Sept. 17th, our students will be dismissed at noon.  This is a time where our teachers will receive important instruction and will be able to work on required assignments from the District.  We so appreciate your support with this valuable day for teachers!

Parents, just a reminder that when you are picking up or dropping off your child to and from school, that you need to keep the handicapped parking areas available for those who need them.  Please do not park behind parked cars that are in those stalls.  We have had problems with people parking there that do not have a handicap sticker and also blocking cars that are trying to pull out.

If you did not get a school magnet, please grab one from the office!

Hello, Brockbank Families!

I hope you enjoyed Labor Day and were able to do some fun things with family and friends!  We look forward to another busy, but great week, here at Brockbank!

Box Tops:  Some of you have probably noticed the Super Hero in our entrance way!  We are getting ready for a little Box Top Competition.  You will also notice the Hero poster showing what Box Tops have been brought in!  We hope you will start collecting those Box Tops and have your child bring them in!  We appreciate the money that it brings to our school!

Picture Day:  September 11th will be our Picture Day!  Lifetouch will be taking the pictures for our school!  Packets will be coming home soon with information!

Bond Presentation: There will be a special Bond Community Presentation, Wed., Sept. 5th,  at Salem Hills High School, at 6:00pm for those interested in receiving more information about the School Bond.

Minimal Day:  Monday, Sept. 17th, our students will be dismissed at noon.  This is a time where our teachers will receive important instruction and give them time to work on required assignments from the District.  We so appreciate your support with this valuable day for teachers!

Parents, I am extremely concerned about the safety of our students after school.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT WALK YOUR CHILDREN ACROSS THE STREET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! Please use the intersection where there is a crossing guard.  Together, let’s set an example our children!

Please make sure to be polite and courteous when driving and picking up your child.  Take your time and DO NOT park and get out of your car along 300 West.  We need to keep that area moving to get cars in and out.

Please do not park along the areas where the buses come in.  There are cones along the areas where we do not want cars.  If you want to park in a parking stall, that is fine, but make sure you get out of your car and walk your child back to your car.  We do not want children crossing alone where the buses come in.

If you did not get a school magnet, please grab one from the office!

Just a couple of things to remember for your child’s safety:

Please check in at the office when you come to the school!

We are really stressing to our students to be safe before and after school.  If you pick up our child, PLEASE do not cross in the middle of the road with your child.  We are trying to get everyone to cross at the intersection.  Please set an example and cross with your child at the intersection.

Please make sure to be polite and courteous when driving and picking up your child.  Take your time and DO NOT park and get out of your car along 300 West.  We need to keep that area moving to get cars in and out.

Hello, Brockbank Families!

We are so excited for Tuesday, when we will open the doors and fill our classrooms and hallways with the BEST students ever! Our teachers have been working so hard and have a special place for each child to come to, as we begin a new school year!  All of our classrooms are decorated so nicely and will be a special home away from home for our students!   Our school is sparkling clean, thanks to Mr. Clark and his crew,  and ready for lots of learning to take place!

As you all know, the school has had a lot of work done on it this summer!  You will  see such a difference as you walk through the doors and notice the bright, new lights!  The temperature should stay consistent and the air flow will be much better!  We appreciate the district and the efforts they have made to take care of our school!

We want  to invite you to our Open House on Monday, August 20th, from 4:00-6:00pm.  You will be able to meet your child's teacher and also sign up for PTA and buy school tee shirts.

Our PTA has worked extra hard this summer to plan some great activities throughout the upcoming year.  I encourage you all to join PTA!  There are so many things that our PTA does for our school!  They organize parent helpers for the classrooms, support our school financially with equipment, supplies, birthday books, meals for the teachers on SEP nights, and many, many more things.  Our children benefit so much from the support of our great PTA!  Please join!

Just as a reminder, school begins Tuesday, August 21st, at 8:40 and will dismiss at 3:00pm.  Kindergarten will begin Tuesday, August 28th. Early out day will be Mondays and we will dismiss at 2:15.

This will be a great year, as we focus on being Leaders of Our Own Learning!  We hope to instill in our students that they need to take the initiative and create the path that leads them to success!  We are here to support, help, nurture, and guide students on their journey!

Thanks so much for your help and support!  We feel so fortunate to work with your child and look forward to a great year!

You’re the BEST!

Brockbank Encourages Students to Keep Reading This Summer

    Mon, 06/04/2018 - 12:19pm

We want to keep your child reading! Summer reading loss is real! Research has proven that the impact of summer reading loss can be significant.

The  more time a child spends reading, the better reader they become. So the best thing you can do for your children is to read to them, reading with them,  and providing them opportunities for more reading.

So to help motivate your child to read this summer we want them to join in our "POP" After Summer Reading Party!  Students who read at least 4 times a week and a minimum of 80 minutes a week will be invited to participate in out POP into Reading Party at the beginning of the new school year. Enjoy all things that POP! Popcorn, Popsicle, bubbles that pop, and balloon games. Fill out the calendar that was sent home and bring it back to your new teacher next year!
