Hello, Brockbank Families!

Thanks to you who have brought pennies to school!  Our grade level buckets are filling up and getting heavy!  We appreciate your support for our Kid Power fundraiser!

Penny Wars:  Feb 20 – March 9
KIDS have the power to make a positive difference.  Please join the Kid Power committee at Brockbank Elementary to change the world.  Our project this year is to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.  This is the type that mostly affects children.  There are children in our school that deal with this disease.
Each grade will bring money to donate. All paper and silver coins in their cans will count for that grades total.  All the pennies put in that grade level can, will subtract from their total.  So put pennies in another classes can to stop them from beating your grade.  Put the silver and paper money in your class can to increase your total.  This is called a Penny War.  Our penny war will help find a cure for juvenile Diabetes.
We will start our project on February 20th and go through March 9th.  The grade level with the heaviest can on Feb 23 will get to have a dance party.  The grade level with the heaviest can on March 2 will get to run someone through their whip cream gauntlet.  The grade level that raises the most money by March 9 will get to have a flour bomb war.  This war is for good and we will have a lot of fun.  Start earning money to make a difference.

Dr. Seuss Day:  Our fun Dr. Seuss Day will be Friday, March 2nd!  The theme is “Grab your hat and read with the cat!”  Please send your child with a hat and a good book to read!

SDD:  March 5th will be the day for our teachers to have a district development day.   We appreciate your support for these days when we can work together to have professional development.  Our bus students will be dismissed at 11:30 and our walking students will be dismissed at noon.

Renaissance Fair:  March 7th will be our 6th Grade Renaissance Fair.  The 6th grade students have been working hard for this day and invite you to come from 12:00-2:00.

Dads and Doughnuts:  March 9th will be an early morning for those who want to come out for a doughnut and to see all the great books at our Book Fair!  It will begin at 7:15.  The Book Fair will run from March 9-March 15th.

SEP Conferences:  Our last SEP Conference will be March 15th.  Our teachers will be sending home reminder notes of your scheduled time.  We look forward to celebrating all of your child’s accomplishments!

Kindergarten PRE-Registration:  March 21st will be the day for our PRE-Registration for kindergarten students.  THIS IS NOT REGISTRATION FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.  We are just needing numbers so we can plan on class size and teachers.  Please make sure you come on that day if you have a child that will be in kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.  Please spread the word to those who might have children this age!

Math Lab:  Just a reminder that we have our Math Lab opened in the mornings before school, at 8:30.  Any student is welcome to come and practice math facts, use the online REFLEX program, or get help with math assignments!

SafeUT Awareness Days February 22 & 23

In light of the recent events in Florida and other tragedies that have happened around the country, Nebo School District is teaming up with KSL on February 22, 2018, as we Stand Up for a Safe Utah. Utah has a very powerful resource and that is the SafeUT app.  As you all know, the SafeUT app provides real-time crisis intervention and has been proven to save lives and stopped planned school attacks.

Our goal is to make sure that every parent, student and educator is aware of the app and has it downloaded on their phone.

Throughout the day, KSL will be highlighting all that the app can do, the history behind it, the success stories and much more. In addition, there will be some fun for the students. Below is the outline to encourage student involvement:·        Encourage your friends to download the app·        Use hashtag #SafeUT on posts

KSL Contest:

Individuals will be able to share a screenshot of their phone with the app downloaded for a chance to win a $50 visa card

These screenshots will need to be posted in the contest on the KSL TV Facebook page

The school that is tagged the most by their students will receive 100 pizzas from KSL!

The contest will start Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23 at 3 p.m.

Watch KSL News at 5 p.m. on Friday to see which school will be receiving 100 pizzas!

Rachel Kimball is our dance specialist and she is awesome! She recently taught first grade students about different kinds of soil through dance. It is awesome how you can use a science core and learn through dance.

Nebo School District is always trying to improve communication and responsiveness to our stakeholders. To that end, we invite students, parents and teachers to give feedback on teachers and administrators in Nebo District schools.  A link to the Nebo Stakeholder Survey 2017-2018 will be found on the Nebo home page at www.nebo.edu beginning Wednesday, February 7 and remaining open until Wednesday, February 21, 2018, where Nebo District stakeholders will be able to share their thoughts and experiences. (Parents and employees will be emailed a link to help them gain access, while students will be shown the link in their computer labs.)The purpose of the Nebo Stakeholder Survey is to help us improve instruction and to keep our finger on the pulse of our patrons. For feedback to be most useful, we suggest being polite even when sharing intensely positive or negative feelings, sharing specific experiences that illustrate your ratings, and using appropriate language in all circumstances.

Thank you for your helpful feedback.

Brockbank sixth-grade students participated in a science fair. Students learned about the scientific process and were then challenged to go home and conduct an experiment that answered a scientific question. The sixth-grade teachers were amazed at the quality of work done by the students. The students worked really hard on their projects. Parents and students from younger grades had the opportunity to go into the gym and look at the projects and ask questions. Everyone enjoyed the science fair and it gave the younger grade students ideas for when they get to participate in the science fair!
