Show Choir - Music at the Mountain

Attention for Show Choir Parents

We have been invited to sing at Maple Mountain High School’s Music at the Mountain, April 11, at 7:00 P.M. In order to be ready for this, I would like to have some additional choir practices for JUST the Show Choir kids.

The first practice for this would be on Thursday, March 22, at 8:00 a.m. This will give us a chance to learn the combined number for that concert. This is the same week as our combined practice with the Jr. Choir. (March 21st at 8:00 a.m.)

I would also like to practice with the kids on Wednesday, March 28th at 8:00 a.m. That practice will be to polish up our two numbers and the combined number as well. I won’t keep the kids as long for this practice.

Then, one more practice on Wednesday, April 11th, at 8:30 a.m., so we can make sure we have everything ready for that night.

The kids will need to wear Hawaiian/Tropical/ bright clothing, Flip flops/sandals, sunglasses, beach towels, etc. Don’t go and buy anything. Just have the kids let me know if they need to borrow some of my things for that night.

I don’t know what our schedule is for that night. We will be assigned a certain section for sitting in at the auditorium. If you need to leave before it’s over, that’s okay with me. Just let me know that that is your plan.

Thank you so much for allowing us to work with your children in choir year. We love it, and we hope it shows!

Thanks for all of your support!

The Three Chairs

Tue, 02/27/2018 - 1:43pm

Students had a great assembly about bullying and ways to help each other. Students were told a story about The Three Chairs.

Chair #1: Good Example, helps others, takes the roll of "Roll Model/Witness/Example/Positive Leader"

Chair #2: Unsure, tends to follow chair #1, takes the roll of "Target". Targets cannot help being targeted. They are NOT at fault. They are NOT responsible for being targets. However, they can choose not to act like a victim. If a bully demands their lunch money, they don’t have to give it to him. If the bully wants to make them cry, then can hold their head up and be defiant. It takes courage to do the right thing.

Chair #3: Teases, unkind, takes the roll of the "Bully". A bully needs both a victim and spectators (audience). Change the bully, the bullying stops. If spectators step in to support the target, the bullying stops. If the target refuses to be a victim, the bullying stops (at least with this example).

YOU MATTER! BE A NEBO HERO!

Hi Parents!

Our SEP conferences will be held this Thursday, March 1st.  This will be student led conferences so there will be no sign-ups for this conference.

We recommend that those whose last name that starts with A-L to come any time from 3:30-5:30 and M-Z to come any time between 6-8.  We understand that this time does not work for everyone so if you need to come to the other session that is fine.  We are just trying to prevent too much congestion.  Teachers will be eating dinner from 5:30-6pm.

We hope to see you there!

Letter from our PTA Regarding Reflections

Mon, 02/26/2018 - 2:56pm
Attributions:

Sierra Bonita parents, A few months back, we sent out a survey asking for your feedback regarding Reflections. On the survey we proposed 2 different ideas. The first one was to continue to participate in Reflections. The second was to opt-out of Reflections, but instead hold a Sierra Bonita arts contest with similar categories and prizes as Reflections. The school-only program would have less limitations and rules, but the participants would not have the opportunity to move on to district or beyond.  Most of the people that took the survey supported the idea of switching to a school-only contest. However, we are aware that some of you expressed concern and would like for our school to continue participating in Reflections. In order to make a decision, we'll have a meeting on Friday, March 2nd at 2:30 pm in the teachers' lounge to discuss both options. If you feel strongly about Reflections, your attendance is important. Amy van Dyk, our current Reflections chair, will explain what is needed for our school to continue participating in Reflections and will also share her ideas for a school-only program.  You can email us at sierrabonitapta@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thank you, Sierra Bonita PTA

Service Project for Mrs. Sorensen's class

Mon, 02/26/2018 - 1:22pm

(more pictures available)

For Valentine's Day, students wanted to share their love and chose to do a service project for their class party.  Students were each able to make a first-aid kit, and collected many other items to be donated to Humanitize Expeditions.

These items will be taken to Haiti, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic to help those in need.  Great job students! You are definitely making the world a better place.

Thank you to all those who donated items for this project.
