These two students won bikes in our reading assembly today! Students earn reading tickets and the number they earn is dependent on how many minutes they read at home. The more tickets you have the higher your chance is of winning a bike! Great job Miranda and Rowen for being amazing readers! #SpanishOaksExplorers #BeSomeonesHero

They are presenting their work in an art show for their parents.  They were asked by the BYU Arts Partnership if they could come and make a video about the students work. Some students were interviewed and we look forward to seeing the interest piece.

1st Grade Community Helper Day

Wed, 03/07/2018 - 9:28pm

(more pictures available)

Part of the 1st-grade core is learning about community helpers.  On community helper day, students come to school dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up.  Then we have parents come share their job with the whole grade.  They talk about how much schooling you need in order to have that as your career as well as the good and hard things they do in their job.  We had the opportunity to hear from a Nebo Credit Union President, chemist, 911 operator, electrician, police officer, beekeeper, nurse, and flutist.  It was such an educational day for the students!

1st Grade Dr. Seuss Day

Dr. Seuss Day is a fun day of the year because not only do students get to dress up like characters from Dr. Seuss books but they also get to complete lots of curriculum-tied Dr. Seuss activities.  We would read a Dr. Seuss book and then do an activity.  We read the book, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut" and then students filled out their Dr. Seuss hats with poems about places they can read.  We read "Green Eggs and Ham" and then ate "green eggs" which was really vanilla pudding dyed green with a vanilla wafer on top.  Another class favorite was reading "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" and then graphing rainbow goldfish.  It was a fun day to be in first grade!

It’s time again for our Excellent Explorers Celebration!  We really enjoy giving these students some love as they make the rounds throughout the school in the morning, and then have a special lunch with Mrs. Brown.  Here are our winners:  Paxton Buhler - “Paxton has been very respectful and helpful with keeping the classroom clean.  He is always a good friend.  He is always on task and he always tries his best.”  Kinzie Vincent – “Kinzie very respectfully stood up to her friend when she thought she was doing something that wasn’t fair.  She helped her friend to see the problem and fix it.”  Jasmine Lott – “She is so kind and friendly. She is helpful, happy, and if someone is upset she usually always helps them.  I love her as a friend and I’m so glad I am her friend.  She isn’t hurtful or mean.”  Ehlana Dodson – “Lana is a very hard worker in class, with an exceptional mind for learning.  Her behavior is respectful, kind and generous.”  Kenzie Baird – “Kenzie is such a sweet and thoughtful girl.  She is always going out of her way to help others.  She always does things with a smile on her face and offers kind words to her classmates whenever she can see someone needs to hear them.”  Congratulations, students!
