SafeUT Awareness Days February 22 & 23

In light of the recent events in Florida and other tragedies that have happened around the country, Nebo School District is teaming up with KSL on February 22, 2018, as we Stand Up for a Safe Utah. Utah has a very powerful resource and that is the SafeUT app. As you all know, the SafeUT app provides real-time crisis intervention and has been proven to save lives and stopped planned school attacks.

Our goal is to make sure that every parent, student and educator is aware of the app and has it downloaded on their phone.

Throughout the day, KSL will be highlighting all that the app can do, the history behind it, the success stories and much more. In addition, there will be some fun for the students. Below is the outline to encourage student involvement:
· Encourage your friends to download the app
· Use hashtag #SafeUT #santaquinelementary on posts

KSL Contest:
Individuals will be able to share a screenshot of their phone with the app downloaded for a chance to win a $50 visa card.
These screenshots will need to be posted in the contest on the KSL TV Facebook page.
The school that is tagged the most by their students will receive 100 pizzas from KSL!
The contest will start Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23 at 3 p.m.
Watch KSL News at 5 p.m. on Friday to see which school will be receiving 100 pizzas!

Nebo School District Stakeholder Survey

Wed, 02/14/2018 - 8:53am
Attributions: Lana Hinskey

Nebo School District is always trying to improve communication and responsiveness to our stakeholders. To that end, we invite students, parents and teachers to give feedback on teachers and administrators in Nebo District schools.  A link to the Nebo Stakeholder Survey 2017-2018 will be found on the Nebo home page at www.nebo.edu beginning Wednesday, February 7 and remaining open until Wednesday, February 21, 2018, where Nebo District stakeholders will be able to share their thoughts and experiences. (Parents and employees will be emailed a link to help them gain access, while students will be shown the link in their computer labs.)

The purpose of the Nebo Stakeholder Survey is to help us improve instruction and to keep our finger on the pulse of our patrons. For feedback to be most useful, we suggest being polite even when sharing intensely positive or negative feelings, sharing specific experiences that illustrate your ratings, and using appropriate language in all circumstances.

Thank you for your helpful feedback.

Santaquin students enjoyed the Pays to Read assembly this week.  The Pays to Read assembly is a reward and motivator for reading.  Our students have read just over One Million minutes already this year.  Students earn reading tickets during the term for reading.  During the assembly,  Mr. Argyle randomly picks tickets for the students to choose a book or a prize.  Many students leave the assembly with a book.  Several students are chosen to participate in the basketball shoot contest, and two students win a bike.  Congratulations to our bike winnners, Kristy Jessop a kindergartner in Mrs. Holt's AM class and to Jack Walker in Mrs. Millers 5th grade class.

Second Grade read "Mr. Tanen's Tie Trouble" this week. As part of our language arts curriculum we enjoyed a visit from our amazing Tech Coach, Mr. Hanosek, who taught us how to tie a tie. Students practiced "How To Writing." They also practiced oral language skills by interviewing a classmate in order to design a tie for them. They then wrote about their experience.  We had alittle trouble but ultimately we tamed those ties!

Break Out!

(more pictures available)

The students in Ms. Camper’s 2nd grade class had a blast completing a breakout room. Students were placed into groups. Each group had to figure out tricky clues to unlock four locks on their box. The students also used their knowledge of two-digit addition and subtraction to solve the tricky clues. When they unlocked all their locks they found a book for the class and a treat. One student said “it was really challenging, but taught us to not give up.” Another student said “I learned that we learn from our mistakes. When we fixed a mistake it helped our brain learn to do it right.” Several students said “today was the best day ever!!!”

5th graders participated in our annual wax museum.  To prepare for the museum,  each student researches about the life of a historical figure. They gather and memorize facts and stories about a famous person and in essence become that person for a day.  Students are encouraged to come dressed as the person they represent and then present their character to other students and parents throughout the day.  Great Job 5th graders!

Students and guests particpated in a patriotic program learning the history of Veterans Day, and celebrating Veterans.  We had many Veterans who joined our program and were honored by being escorted by a student relative down a corridor of Cub Scouts from our school.  Over 30 of our own scouts were standing in uniform showing respect for the Veterans.  Each of the Veterans stood as their branch of the military was announced and all the students in the school sang the song, "Thank You Military" and "I'm Proud To Be An American".
