Eagle Eye on Miss. Nielson

Mon, 10/02/2017 - 1:47pm

Miss Nielson joins us this year in the 3rd grade.  She is the middle child with two older brothers and two younger half brothers.  Her bucket list includes learning to play the violin, finishing the book Unbroken, and seeing the Lion King on Broadway.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking in the mountains and reading.  She claims the strangest talent she has is reading a book and running at the same time.  It's no surprise with all the reading she does that she loves to teach guided reading to her students.  She also loves Babe Ruth candybars and would choose to eat at Zupas or Cafe Rio.  Miss Nielson is very kind and sweet natured.  We have loved having her at Rees Elementary this year.

As you admire the scarecrows on Main Street in Spanish Fork, be sure to notice the Rees Eagle.  We are happy to debut our first scarecrow this year.  It is located right in front of Central Bank. You'll notice it is sporting our new S.O.A.R logo.  The letters stand for Serve and Support, Own our Actions and Words, Aim High to Achieve and Respect.  This lovely eagle is the hard work of our student council and their amazing advisers Jen Gasser and Tonya Painter.   Rees is proud to support the City of Spanish Fork in this fun display of fall spirit.

We had a blast last night jamming to music by local star Ashley Garbe Smith and her amazing band!  Families came and enjoyed hotdogs, popcorn and mingling with each other.  Mr. Gull started the night out by sharing our new Positive Behavior Intervention Plan with parents.  He explained what SOAR stands for, Serve and Support, Own Your Actions and Words, and Respect.   Mrs. Darrington then explained what Title One means and how we use our Title One allocation funds.  The PTA shared with us the benefits of PTA and encouraged parents to get involved with the different PTA activities.  The weather was beautiful, the support was amazing and the night was one to be remembered.

Rees Elementary was honored last night with not only ONE but TWO Peak Award Winners.  Our amazing secretary Mrs. Nikki Thomas was nominated by Mr. Gull.  "“Nikki is everything you want in a secretary. She is kind, happy, professional, organized and she just gets it done! She is always so positive and happy with everyone that enters the office at Rees. She is quick to respond to the needs of parents, students, teachers and staff members. She has an incredible laugh that fills the room and just makes you feel good when you talk with her. Nikki brightens the school with her presence. Many people come to her, and she is right there to lift them up or keep them smiling. Nikki sets a professional, positive tone and is efficient in her duties. Nikki will take care of you when you visit Rees Elementary.”

Mrs. Burton is new to Rees, and has been here this year as a part time Resource teacher.  She has been a wonderful addition to our SPED department and we love having her here.  Mrs. Burton splits her time between Rees and Art City, and her principal at Art City, Mrs. Muirbrook, nominated her for the PEAK award.  "Karen absolutely loves her job. She is very experienced and knowledgeable about special education students and student development. She is willing to share her knowledge and expertise with all faculty members at any time. She has volunteered her time in other classrooms offering intervention ideas and techniques to teachers. She not only cares about her students but each student and staff member at Art City. Karen truly exemplifies positive energy and kindness.”

Congratulations to both of these very deserving ladies!!!

Eagle EYE on Mrs. Kelly

Mrs. Kelly is a familiar face around Rees as she has been a favorite substitute for many years.  We are thrilled to have her join us as an official 4th grade teacher this year.  She is married with 4 kids, all of whom have attended Rees.  Her favorite vacation was a trip to Disneyland, and someday she would like to travel to Italy.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.  She loves Zupas, and Hot Tamales are her favorite treat.   If she won the lottery, she would buy a new house and travel to Hawaii and New York.  We are so happy to have Mrs. Kelly join us as a REES EAGLE!!

Eagle EYE on Mrs. Hansen

Tue, 09/05/2017 - 2:41pm
Attributions:

Mrs. Kristi Hansen is our new afternoon skill builder.  Mrs. Hansen says her favorite part of the job is getting to be with kids.  She says "they are great and so much fun."  Mrs. Hansen has 4 boys and no girls.   Her family lives on a farm and they have cows, lambs, chickens and cats.  In her spare time she likes to run, scrapbook, make crafts and read.  Her favorite restaurant is anything with Mexican food because she loves chips and salsa.  The strangest talent that she has is that her thumbs are double jointed and she can twist them around backwards.  Riding in a helicopter, visting New York and going to Hawaii are things she would eventually like to do.  We are thrilled to have Mrs. Hansen with us at Rees.  She is kind to everyone and very professional and we feel so lucky to have her.

Mrs. Heidi Groneman is joining us this year in 2nd grade.  She has taught school for 5 years, and has taught both 6th and 2nd grade.  Her husband is also a teacher.  They have 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl.   Her favorite trip was to Disneyland, and someday she would like to travel to New Zealand or Hawaii.  Her favorite restaurant is Carrabas and she loves peanut butter M&M's.  Someday she would like to get a Masters degree and finish her basement.  If she won the lottery she would pay off her house, help her family, and travel.  We are so excited to have Mrs. Groneman join us this year.  She is very friendly and has been a great addition to Rees Elementary.

What S.O.A.R stands for in the words of a student

Fri, 09/01/2017 - 3:10pm
Attributions: Article by: Marissa Jackson in 5th grade

Marissa Jackson, a 5th grader in Mrs. Crandall's class shared this essay about the new S.O.A.R theme:

At school we have a motto called S.O.A.R.  Each letter means different things.  S stands for Serve and Support.  O means Own Your Actions and Your Words.  A is Aim High and Achieve.  Last is R which is Respect.   We follow this S.O.A.R. motto in the learning areas, cafeteria, hallways, and in the bus, bike, and walking areas.  Each week we focus on a letter at a time.  This week we are focusing on letter S.  Then we will focus on the other letters for the next few weeks.  We are Rees Eagles and we S.O.A.R. high.

Rees Eagles S.O.A.R!  This year Rees is implementing a new PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) using the acronym S.O.A.R.  In our opening assembly we learned that S stands for Serve and Support, O stands for Own our Actions and Words, A stands for Aim High and Achieve and R stands for Respect.  As part of the kick off event, students had an exciting visit from Sundance, a Golden Eagle from the Great Basin Rehab located here in Spanish Fork.  They were able to learn some neat facts about Eagles that go along with S.O.A.R.  The students loved seeing the giant Golden Eagle spread its wings, and we know our Rees Eagles will fly high this year too!

The school has been a buzz with lots of happy children and excited teachers today.  We are so thrilled to have all of our little Eagles back in the nest for another great school year.  As Mr. Gull and Mrs. Darrington walked through the school this morning, there were classes learning procedures, taking tours of the school, playing get to know you games, reading books, learning about super hero powers, and even getting the wiggles out with a quick dance party.  It has been a GREAT day!!!
