Thu, 11/09/2017 - 10:47pm

Today, students of Park View had the privledge of standing amoung heros. Veterans that are related to Park View students and faculty were honored in a special Veterans Day assembly. The assembly was opened by a flag ceremony, The Pledge of Alligence, and the national anthem sung by Zoe Stevenson, Wyatt Alexander, Emma Anderson, and Gracie Morton. The fifth grade students helped everyone feel patriotic with songs about military and America. The veterans and their relatives stood as their heroic story was read aloud. Afterwards, they were given an American flag pin as a "thank you for your service" gift. Lastly, veterans and their families were celebrated with a victory lab around the school.

We want to thank all men and women who have served in the military, we appreciate you, we love you, and we stand proud to be Americans.

Our school has implemented the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. These habits have created a culture of empowerment based on the idea that every person can be a leader.  Students are developing their whole person- through mind, body, heart and spirit. Each habit teaches critical thinking, goal setting, listening and speaking, self-directed learning, presentation-making and the ability to work in groups.

At the end of our last school year the student council held a fundraiser which earned over $900 - it was all donated to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation for cancer research.  The money earned the school two paving stones to be placed in the Huntsman’s Walk of Hope in honor of Mrs. Walker, our beloved computer technician who passed away from cancer last March.  Just recently the stones were placed.  Thank you to all those who helped make this happen through so many generous donations.

Hi! My name is Mrs. Perkins. I have been a teacher for 17 years and now want to be a principal of a school. I have always loved working in a school full of lively active children, die-hard compassionate teachers, and staff. Park View is full of incredible people! A few things about me include: I have three grown children and one grand daughter, my favorite color is yellow, I love animals, I love to read, I love to take my jeep to the mountains and camp, I love to sing and play my piano, and spending time with my husband and family is my #1. I feel absolutely privileged being here at Park View Elementary. Everyone here at this school has been so welcoming and friendly. I thank you. Thanks for making me feel like I matter!

Park View Elementary had a GAINS District Dance Specialist visit  last week.  GAINS stands for Growing Arts In Nebo Schools.  Specialists visit elementary schools throughout the District and work with teachers and students on using different kinds of arts integration. Arts Integration employs the arts as a teaching tool to enhance learning of the core curriculum.  Taylor will be working with Dance Integration this school year.   5th grade students danced about the ORDER OF OPERATIONS with a little help from our hula hoops.  By adding movement to the meaning of the different operations, students will better remember this important sequence. 6th grade students created dancing EGYPTIAN HIEROGLYPHICS to share a message about Ancient Egypt.   3rd-4th grade will be visiting with the Dance Specialist in a couple of weeks as well.  Wait until then to hear more!

Be A Leader

Wed, 08/30/2017 - 9:56pm

Park View Elementary is rolling out a new theme this year. BE A LEADER! We believe that every student attending Park View is a leader. We are dedicating our efforts to help each student exhibit leadership traits using the seven habits.

Let’s quickly explore the seven habits!

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive. You're in Charge: Success doesn’t just come and find you, you have to go out and get it.
  • Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Have a Plan: Know what you want before you do it.
  • Habit 3: Put First Things First. Work First, Then Play: Do it now. Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’.
  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win. Everyone Can Win: People who win are those that turn their cant’s into cans, and their dreams into plans.
  • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. Listen Before You Talk: Before you act, LISTEN. Before you react, THINK. Before you spend, EARN. Before you criticize, WAIT. Before you quit, TRY.
  • Habit 6: Synergize. Together Is Better: Alone we are smart. Together we are brilliant.
  • Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw. Balance Feels Best: Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.

We encourage you as parents, guardians, and relatives to use the language of the seven habits at home and in your day to day activities. It’s easy! Instead of saying, “Jonny, thank you for putting your dishes in the sink.” Change your language to, “Jonny, thank you for being proactive and putting your dishes in the sink!”

We are confident that these habits will empower our students to be positive, responsible, and more effective in their everyday life! If you have any questions, feel free to ask your child’s teacher.

Remember, BE A LEADER!
