Mt. Loafer believes the road to success is always under construction! To help support our students, we will be encouraging them to build a new mindset skill each month beginning at our school-wide assemblies. September’s skill is “I can set academic and behavior goals and work hard to achieve them.” Today we joined together as a school to learn about the skill. We also learned our new Mt. Loafer dance! We are so excited to watch our students and faculty grow this year!

Parent Newsletter 9/10/18

THANK YOU- Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our pick up and drop off zones safe both before and after school. As a reminder, please continue to use the pull-through zones as a single lane, do not get out of your cars and watch for both students and parents alike. If you need to park, use a marked parking stall to retrieve your students. We ask that you escort your students across 250 West and do not allow them to cross without adult supervision. Those students riding the buses will not be allowed to have friends ride with them, unless there is an emergency. Again, thank you for your cooperation as we navigate the beginning of a new year and learn the best safety precautions for our grizzlies!

School Lunch Accounts:FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH. If you haven't applied for free and reduced lunches for this school year do it ASAP!!  Students who had been on this program last year and not reapplied for the 2018-2019 school year will not continue to receive these benefits BEGINNING October 1, 2018.

Also, if you had a negative lunch account balance from last school year, are currently negative or foresee your accounts running low please come in to the office to settle up your accounts. If you have questions you may call the lunchroom at any time and we will happily assist you. (801) 423-2705

Student Attendance: Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating. If your student misses school please call and excuse their absences. As always, please contact us if you need some assistance with your student’s attendance.

PTO News: BOX TOP COLLECTION! September 13-14. Bring in 10 or more Box Tops and you get a bag of popcorn! Look for the Box Top table outside at lunch recess.

Parent Newsletter   9/4/18

Early Arrival for Students:Please note that the school will be accessible to ALL students beginning at 8:00am. We do not provide direct student supervision until 8:30. If your student arrives early we will ask them to play on the playground or sit in the office until appropriate supervision is provided. At 8:30am all students will be allowed to access classrooms or play outside with direct supervision. And as always, we kindly ask kids not to run, play or wander the hallways or other classrooms in our building. Students are our top priority and we want them all the have a great experience each day!

Bus Lane Pick-up/drop-off: Some clarification of where to access your students before or after school. Please be courteous and follow the painted lines on the curbing.

Yellow painted lines = parent pick-up and drop-off zones (North & South ends)

Green painted lines = bus zone (Center East side)

We invite you to drop your student off or pick them up in the correct locations. The flow of traffic though tricky at times is critical to helping students arrive and leave safely. If you choose the North end of the building please pull through from the South end and leave on the North end. This will help us all do our best to get our grizzlies here and home.

Please do not pull in to the green busing zone. Even if you do not see a bus we currently have 8 buses to transport students at Mt. Loafer and it is not an approved area for parents to park or pull through.

Parent Newsletter 8/27/2018

Mt. Loafer Grizzlies are Mind Builders! Thank you for a great first week of school, we absolutely loved having our grizzlies in our building. Many of you had the opportunity to drop off your students the first day and may have noticed our “construction zone” where you most likley wondered what was happening at Mt. Loafer. Good news! We are only under construction in one area, our minds! Our theme at Mt. Loafer for the 2018-19 school year we will be “Building a Brighter Future” as we learn that The Road to Success is ALWAYS Under Construction. Each month we will pick a skill of growth mindset and work on it school wide. We will celebrate our grizzlies in a monthly award assembly and work hard to be Mind Builders. When you visit the school we invite you to take a look at our theme spread throughout. We also encourage you to ask your students all about our theme as we kick it off in an assembly September 7th.  We will include in each newsletter the Mind builder of the month. Our skill for September is: I can Set academic and behavior goals and work hard to achieve them! Please help us in supporting our school theme and behavior and academic skills this year.

Pick up and Drop Off: We want to remind parents about parking in the pick up/drop off area. We kindly ask you to please not park in this area before or after school. If you need to get out of your car for any reason we need you to park in a marked parking stall and come in to the school. If there is an empty space in front of you while you are waiting to pick up or drop off your students we also ask that you continue to pull forward, filling the void in space. Please note that the pick up/drop off lane is a single deep lane. The other portion of this lane is for a pull-through only. Do not stop or park in the pull through lane. In keeping to this procedure will help keep the flow of traffic moving along so we do not back up into the street more than necessary. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe in this particular area before and after school.

We also ask that you do not park on the West side of 250 W unless you walk across the street to retrieve your children at the end of the school day. As you may notice we do not have a marked crosswalk or crossing guard to escort students across 250 W. If you choose to park on this side of the road you will need to get out of your car, cross the street to retrieve your grizzly and escort them back to your car. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!

Reading Calendars: We do a PTO sponsored Reading Incentive Program here at Mt. Loafer. Each month, a reading calendar will be sent home and the information will be on the back. Each grade level is required to read a certain amount of minutes in order to receive a monthly prize from the Grizzly Store.  There will also be a large prize at the end of the year for those students who turn in all eight calendars, (September - April) and meet their reading goal for each of those months. The students love this program, and look forward to going to the "Grizzly Store" each month. So keep an eye out for your student's reading calendar this week, and encourage them to participate!  Reading Rocks!
