To kick off learning about the Middle Ages, several sixth grade classes were visited recently by a Viking knight, Sir Bailey. The sixth graders learned all about what it meant to be a knight during the Viking times, what they wore, weapons that they used, and what their lives were like. It was so interesting to have a visitor from the past to bring history alive!

Art City Traditional Holiday Singing

Art City Elementary school has a tradition to sing holiday songs every year.  Students sang their hearts out as well as danced with a Just Dance "Crazy Santa" video.  Even teachers were doing the "Crazy Santa".  The students were really surprised when, who should walk through the door?  Santa!  Some may say that Mrs. Muirbrook was just as excited for this special visitor just to see the excitement on the students faces.

Fifth grade began a Kindness Challenge in December, and the challenge continues this month. As students decorated the hallway in the swamp, each student had their own paper stocking hanging on the wall. Before Christmas break students were able to write small kind notes and stuff them in each other’s stockings. They are trying to find some small or different ways to spread kindness to others. What a great way to inspire each other help everyone feel important!

Chemistry Teaches Synergy in 5th Grade

Discovery Gateway came to Cherry Creek Elementary to show our 5th graders the proper way to mix chemicals without blowing anything up or destroying themselves. When chemicals synergize, they create something different as they work together, just like what Habit #6 teaches us. Students were able to mix chemicals together and practice what they learned through personal trial and error.

They really enjoy the presentation that the lab scientist gave. They also enjoyed working with one another and synergizing to bring about a chemical reaction.

We have some students that have done praise worthy acts before and after winter break. We would like to recognize Chris Mickelson for plugging in the ipads and chromebooks, Gunnar Weight for staying late to stack chairs, Sophia Melendez for asking questions about her classwork so she could do it correctly, Nixon Young for handling problems on his own and not tattling on others, Olivia Burris, Emma Burris, and Jack Beach for always saying thank you, Jeryck McCoy is always trying to be polite, Eduard Orozco is honest, Lisset Mosqueda helps organize the ipads, Ace York is working on neat hand writing, Lincoln Tibbs set a personal goal and is reaching it, Edie Wilde is having a positive attitude with her schoolmates, Teagan Farrer finished his morning work, Gracie Tanner went the extra mile in picking up things around the classroom, Shawn Costello walked down the hall quietly and sat on pockets during the assembly, Nixon Young cleaned up for another student, Brayden Smith let the office know when there was an issue in one of the rooms at the school.

It's good to be back from winter break and settle into school again. The term end next Thursday with SEP's starting at 3:30. No school Friday the 12th or Monday the 15th.
