Sunflowers in Bloom

Salem Elementary News - Thu, 10/12/2017 - 2:33pm

You won't just find beautiful sunflowers along the roadside, you might also run in to a few in the fourth grade hall as well.  Students did a fantastic job painting these sunflowers and writing poems about sunflowers using their five senses.  Makes for a "sun-sational" display in our hallway!

Fourth graders are learning about verbs and how to use strong verbs in their writing.  Since Halloween is soon approaching, what better way to teach using strong verbs than to burry some of our overused verbs.  RIP boring and weak verbs, our new verbs are quite lively.  Using strong and interesting verbs will make writing come to life!

9th grade learns about growth mindset

Salem Junior High School News - Fri, 10/06/2017 - 8:40am

This year in ninth grade, teachers are teaching students about the growth mindset! The growth mindset has a lot to do with grit. It’s teaching us that even if we’re bad at something now, there’s always room to grow and become better! I love this because it helps me a lot when I’m doing my homework. When I’m sick of doing homework, I just remember grit and it helps me through. We do a lot of assignments on the growth mindset. Learning to not have a fixed mindset. I love this!

Attention! The fall after school clubs are now in session! Get signed up pronto! The school has provided a great selection of different clubs to join, so make sure to take a look at what clubs there are, because it’s probably a pretty high chance that one of them will peak your interest! Make sure to start signing up fast, with some of them, there are a limited amount of spots available. Different activities are available on different days of the week so make sure to refer to the chart below to see which days and activities work best for you and your schedule!

I’ve personally tried the knitting one, it’s super fun! So make sure to go see Mrs. Betteridge for information and sign ups!

Skyhawks vs. Dons

Salem Junior High School News - Thu, 10/05/2017 - 2:27pm

Last Friday was the Salem Skyhawks V.S. Spanish Fork Dons. It was a really good game because they're rivals so it will be a good game no matter what. At the football games the junior high kids hang out and have a really good time with one another. And all the elementary kids play football or boys chase girls and have a good time as well. There’s a snack shack that has really good food, so you don’t have to worry about that. Football games are really important to me because the whole community comes together to a good game of football. Coming into this game I thought we were going to win but… We lost 38 to 30 it was a pretty good game but we totally gave them the win. Although Skyhawks didn’t win we all came together. I love football and i especially love living in salem.

8th grade throws themselves into the world of science discovery!

Salem Junior High School News - Thu, 10/05/2017 - 1:20pm
Attributions: Savannah Roylance

Recently, Mr. Bell’s 8th grade science class began to do their experiments/labs. They studied chemical and physical properties of household ingredients, such as flour, sugar, sodium, etc. They did a variety of tests ranging from seeing how they reacted to peroxide or iodine, to putting them over an open flame and seeing the result. He then gave them a mixture of the substances, and told them to figure out what ingredients were in it. The ending goal was to use their knowledge of the chemical and physical properties of each of the substances to figure out what ingredients were in the mixture. And they totally rocked the safety goggles too! :)
