On the night of November 16, 5th graders at Salem Elementary were on station and ready to come to life to present their annual “Night at the Museum” for parents and the community. This culminating activity had started a month and a half earlier, as each fifth grade student chose a famous person from history and then researched so they could do a biographical account on their famous person. They then wrote a report, created and memorized a blurb, made wonderful backdrops, came up with exciting props and then dramatized their famous person, live and in person at the “Salem Elementary Museum of Natural History”.  Every student made their character very unique and likable and gave the community a fun filled evening of history spanning from ancient to present day. Great Job! Salem Elementary fifth graders.

After listening to and Aesop's fable, fourth graders made paper mitt puppets and wrote an original script where characters experienced a simple problem in a unique setting. Students enjoyed presenting their puppet show to their classmates.  Thanks to our GAINS specialist from the district, Mrs. Bean, for sharing this fun idea with our students!

Here at Salem Jr High School, the Honors Society is sponsoring a pop tab drive. The pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City. The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to stay if they have a family member in the hospital. The Ronald McDonald House recycles the pop tabs to pay overhead costs of running the house. Start collecting pop tabs (found on soda cans, soup cans, fruit cans, etc.) Students turn them into your advisory teacher. There will be a gallon jug in your advisory classroom. The first class to fill the jug to the top will be the winner and get a reward. The reward is to be decided by the Honors Society and will be revealed later.

Hope in the Future

Salem Hills High School News - Tue, 11/21/2017 - 3:38pm

http://shhs.nebo.edu/sites/shhs.nebo.edu/files/IMG-3728.JPG

I frequently hear people talking about their concerns with "kids these days". I spend a lot of time with the upcoming generation and I have to say that I am exceptionally hopeful! This last week was our Make A Wish Week at Salem Hills High School. Our students and community raised over $17,000 so far to grant Olivia's wish and help other members of our community. Our kids are generous, kind, and good! I watched kids give up their lunch money to make donations. I saw faculty take time to get the kids excited and involved. I saw groups of teenage boys dance their hearts out. I watched our community come together to support the cause. I am so proud to be a part of all of this. I love my job! I love our students! I love our faculty! I love this community! Our future is in good and capable hands.
