Over the past weekend we celbrated Veteran's Day. On Monday morning, Salem Elementary students paid tribute to our Veterans in a Veteran's Day Assembly.  During the assembly Veterans introduced themselves adn told us when and where they have served.  We also watched a short video clip which informed students of the meaning behind the Star Spangled Banner, what the words really mean, and then we all stood together to sing it. We thank our veterans for the sacrifices they made so that we may enjoy our freedom each and every day.

Life Flight and Salem City's emergency responders visited our school's playground for Red Ribbon Week. Students were filled with excitement while anticipating the arrival of Life Flight.  Then, what an awesome sight it was, to watch the helicopter actually land on our school's field.  After it landed, students got an up close look at the helicopter and were able to learn a few facts about Life Flight.  Then at lunch, Salem City brought a fire truck, amublance, and police cars for students to see.  Thank you to these fine men and women for all they do to help in emergencies and keep our city safe.

Next week our school's counselors and the Hope Squad are sponsoring Hope Week with the theme Unplug and Reconnect. The theme is focused on the concern that too much time spent on electronics and especially social media can be detrimental to student's physical and mental health. This whole week our counselors will be reminding students to put down their phones and reconnect with their friends and their surroundings on a personal level. Above is the schedule of planned activities for the week.
