Bald Mountain Evacuees.  We realize how difficult it is being away from your homes.  The Red Cross will be closing its center at Salem High School 9/17.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has allowed us to use their church building in Salem for evacuees to have a place to go during the day.  It is located at 1129 South 250 West, Salem.  Just South of the Mt Loafer Elementary school.  It will be open 8 am to 3 pm.

We will have toys, activities, and snacks.  Please come and visit with your neighbors, let your children get out some energy, enjoy some snacks and relax.  Think of it as your home close to home.  There will be no child care provided.  All children need to have PARENTAL supervision at all times, no exceptions.

How can I help-

We need volunteers to help staff the center.  If you would like to volunteer to help, we have a sign up genius.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E044FA8A823A31-salem

Do you have a talent or service you would like to share with those at the center? We expect to have a lot of children.   If you do please contact Tanya Willis 385-325-2253.

Service ideas: Face Painting, Balloon Animals, Cotton Candy, Puppet Shows, Music Play Time, etc.”

We are so lucky that we get to have Mr. Hanosek at our school. He is our school's digital coach and is here to help teachers and students incorporate technology in meaningful ways. Mr. Hanosek came into Mrs. Brindley's class to help her students with using Chromebooks.

When a student sees Mr. H enter their classroom, they know it's going to be a fun day!

The students in Mr. Thurgood's class had to grab a plastic cup using a rubber band and stack the cups on top of each other. Activities like these require teamwork, build the classroom rapport and community, and are fun! Nice work, Mr. Thurgood's class!

Springville Junior High shows their love for Salem Junior High students.

Salem Junior High School News - Fri, 09/14/2018 - 2:16pm

(more pictures available)

The student council at Springville Junior coordinated an act of love and support for our students today. They recognized that some of our students are stressed and worried about the Pole Creek fire as it threatens their homes. So, they sent a large banner with messages of support along with a thousand hand-written notes with treats attached that will be handed out to students.

We are very touched by the love and support that the students at Springville Junior have shown during this time.

Announcement from the Choir!

Salem Hills High School News - Fri, 09/14/2018 - 1:35pm

Good afternoon! I have decided to postpone the SHHS Mattress Sale until next Saturday, September 22nd. With the evacuation order still in effect, the possibility of home loss, and the poor air quality combined, tomorrow isn't the right time for us to move foward with the sale. The plan for now is to hold it next Saturday, September 22nd, 10am-5pm. If there isn't any improvement of the fire conditions, or if things worsen by next Saturday, I'll look at potentially rescheduling again. But, I'm optimistic that the wonderful firefighters will make good progress in the next few days and there won't be any losses. But, we'll keep a very close eye.                                                Thank you!             Justin Bills

Fire and Evacuations

Salem Junior High School News - Fri, 09/14/2018 - 9:23am

Although school is being held today, please do what you feel is best for your students. We understand that families need to be together during difficult times, and we will work closely with students who miss school because of the fire and evacuations.

Also, students who come to school today will be kept inside all day to avoid breathing the contaminated air.

Dance Party!

Mt Loafer Elementary News - Mon, 09/10/2018 - 2:45pm

Mt. Loafer believes the road to success is always under construction! To help support our students, we will be encouraging them to build a new mindset skill each month beginning at our school-wide assemblies. September’s skill is “I can set academic and behavior goals and work hard to achieve them.” Today we joined together as a school to learn about the skill. We also learned our new Mt. Loafer dance! We are so excited to watch our students and faculty grow this year!

Parent Newsletter 9/10/18

THANK YOU- Thank you for your continued efforts in keeping our pick up and drop off zones safe both before and after school. As a reminder, please continue to use the pull-through zones as a single lane, do not get out of your cars and watch for both students and parents alike. If you need to park, use a marked parking stall to retrieve your students. We ask that you escort your students across 250 West and do not allow them to cross without adult supervision. Those students riding the buses will not be allowed to have friends ride with them, unless there is an emergency. Again, thank you for your cooperation as we navigate the beginning of a new year and learn the best safety precautions for our grizzlies!

School Lunch Accounts:FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH. If you haven't applied for free and reduced lunches for this school year do it ASAP!!  Students who had been on this program last year and not reapplied for the 2018-2019 school year will not continue to receive these benefits BEGINNING October 1, 2018.

Also, if you had a negative lunch account balance from last school year, are currently negative or foresee your accounts running low please come in to the office to settle up your accounts. If you have questions you may call the lunchroom at any time and we will happily assist you. (801) 423-2705

Student Attendance: Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating. If your student misses school please call and excuse their absences. As always, please contact us if you need some assistance with your student’s attendance.

PTO News: BOX TOP COLLECTION! September 13-14. Bring in 10 or more Box Tops and you get a bag of popcorn! Look for the Box Top table outside at lunch recess.
