Snakes Race for Rats

Spanish Fork Junior High School News - Fri, 09/29/2017 - 12:21pm

During Pack Time, in Mr. Whiting’s science class this week, students and their friends designed, created, and built a python maze.  On Tuesday, experimental design papers were given to each group and the best design was selected.  On Wednesday, the actual maze was designed by the various groups following the parameters from Tuesday.  The best maze design was then selected.  On Thursday and Friday, the real fun began and the class went wild cutting, gluing, and working together to build a python maze collectively.  Quoting Mr. Whiting, “I was pleasantly surprised to see the level of kind cooperation that each student exhibited toward their peers during the construction of the maze.  This quality will serve them well throughout their lives.”

Friday during lunch, the rats were released from one end of the maze and the pythons were released from the other.  Again Mr. Whiting stated, “The kids were much more intrigued than I had initially expected.  Some students were terrified, some were nervous, but the general feeling was excitement.  I heard from students, ‘The whole school is talking about it.’  I am glad it was such a success.  I will be doing similar projects for Spanish Fork Junior High students in the future.  Go Lobos!”

Former Students Visit Brockbank

Brockbank Elementary News - Fri, 09/29/2017 - 12:20pm

(more pictures available)

September 28, 1992, Mrs. Janice Nelson's third grade class buried a time capsule to be opened 25 years later. Student teacher at the time, Stephanie Richards was over the activity. The problem is no one expected that during the past 25 years changes would be made to the outside of the school and where the time capsule was buried is now a sidewalk. Custodian, Alan Clark tried to locate the time capsule with no luck.

We apologize to the students from the 1992 third class that we couldn't open their time capsule as planned but a nice ceremony was held.. It was nice to have the principal, Mr. Ronald Bills, teacher, Mrs. Janice Nelson, and the student teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Richards from 1992 attend the ceremony along with 5 former Brockbank students.

Current third grade students recited trivia from 1992 and told the audience what they thought might have happened to the time capsule. Students from the 1992 third grade class introduced themselves, told students some of their memories of school and what it was like when they were in third grade.
