Horton, Maisey, the Whos and Kangaroos; just a few of the characters that delighted us in our school play.  Mrs. Call and Mrs. Lewis have done an amazing job in helping the actors and actresses present an amazing story for us to enjoy!  The students' and teachers' hard work really showed as they sang and danced their way into our hearts.  Parents and families are invited to attend Thursday and/or Friday nights at 7:00 p.m.  All who come will not be disappointed!  Thanks for a job well done!

Principal Newsletter March 5th - 9th

Riverview Elementary News - Tue, 03/06/2018 - 3:32pm

Principal Moment

I don’t know why, but kids like to talk about their parents’ ages.  It is a predictable subject of conversation.  Every year, at some time, I will hear one student ask another, “How old is your mom?”

I remember when I first heard the question.  I was twenty-two years old, fresh out of college and newly married.

When I heard students announce their parents age as thirty-five; I thought, wow, their parents are old!

Pretty soon I was thirty-five, and I heard the question again.  Wow, I thought.  I’m the same age as their parents.

I still hear the question.  Wow, I think.  I’m older than the parents.  What happened?  Where did time go?

Teachers are Peter Pans in a way.  It’s so easy to lose track of time.  You forget that you’re getting older, because they’re always the same age.  You teach in the same classroom year after year.  You wear the same dress.  You tell the same jokes.  Everything is always the same.

Then one day you are kicked into the reality that you are getting older when you receive a graduation announcement or a wedding invitation, or when the store cashier says, “Hi, Mrs. Killian.  Remember me?”  Ahhh...the circle of life.

SEP Conferences

Riverview SEP Conferences will be held Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th.  SEP Conferences will be held Wednesday from 3:20 – 5:00 PM and Thursday from 3:20-8:00 PM.  You will be getting an email from SignUpGenius.  This email will allow you to visit the website, find your child’s teacher (s), and sign-up for the time that is most convenient to your individual schedule.  Parents, if you find a need to change your appointment the day of conferences, please contact the teacher so he/she is aware of the change.  Thank you.

Kindergarten Pre-Registration

Kindergarten pre-registration is approaching.  This process will be different from past years.  Online pre-registration will open March 12th – March 23rd.  On Wednesday, March 21st, parents may come to the school.  The computer lab will be open to assist parents in the online pre-registration.   Please bring, on Wednesday, March 21st, a copy of proof of residency, a birth certificate and up-to-date vaccinations.  The following vaccines are required for students entering Kindergarten:

  • 5 DTP/DTaP/DT - 4 doses if 4th dose was given on/after the 4th birthday
  • 4 Polio - 3 doses if 3rd dose was given on/after the 4th birthday

Hello, Brockbank Families!

We had such a fun day for Dr. Seuss Day!  The students came in some pretty fun hats and brought some great books to read!  Thanks for helping your child be ready for this fun day!

We also appreciate your support with our half day today!  The teachers were able to meet and we participated in professional development with Literacy and student goals!

Penny Wars:  Feb 20 – March 9
KIDS have the power to make a positive difference.  Please join the Kid Power committee at Brockbank Elementary to change the world.  Our project this year is to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.  This is the type that mostly affects children.  There are children in our school that deal with this disease.
Each grade will bring money to donate. All paper and silver coins in their cans will count for that grades total.  All the pennies put in that grade level can, will subtract from their total.  So put pennies in another classes can to stop them from beating your grade.  Put the silver and paper money in your class can to increase your total.  This is called a Penny War.  Our penny war will help find a cure for juvenile Diabetes.
We will start our project on February 20th and go through March 9th.  The grade level with the heaviest can on Feb 23 will get to have a dance party.  The grade level with the heaviest can on March 2 will get to run someone through their whip cream gauntlet.  The grade level that raises the most money by March 9 will get to have a flour bomb war.  This war is for good and we will have a lot of fun.  Start earning money to make a difference.

Renaissance Fair:  Our 6th grade students have been working very hard for their Renaissance Fair!  It will be Wednesday, March 7th.  Parents are welcome to come from 12:00-2:00

Dads and Doughnuts:  March 9th will be an early morning for those who want to come out for a doughnut and to see all the great books at our Book Fair!  It will begin at 7:15.  The Book Fair will run from March 9-March 15th.

SEP Conferences:  Our last SEP Conference will be March 15th.  Our teachers will be sending home reminder notes of your scheduled time.  We look forward to celebrating all of your child’s accomplishments!

Kindergarten PRE-Registration:  March 21st will be the day for our PRE-Registration for kindergarten students.  THIS IS NOT REGISTRATION FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS.  We are just needing numbers so we can plan on class size and teachers.  Please make sure you come on that day if you have a child that will be in kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.  Please spread the word to those who might have children this age!

Math Lab:  Just a reminder that we have our Math Lab opened in the mornings before school, at 8:30.  Any student is welcome to come and practice math facts, use the online REFLEX program, or get help with math assignments!

We invite you to LIKE us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as our own Brockbank website!  Follow us on Instagram--#Brockbankbest, #Lookatbrockbank, and #BrockbankBFF
