Dear Brockbank Families!
The countdown begins! One week of summer vacation is left and one week until we have our school back to the way it should be--full of students! It's been a great summer and I hope you have been able to do some special things with family and friends!
We are so excited for this upcoming year! Mr. Clark, our great custodian, has our school sparkling clean, and our sensational teachers have been working hard to get their rooms ready for the new year! We will also be getting a new flag pole and we have had a couple of Eagle Scouts, who are working to make our school beautiful and safe!

Our mission statement is, "At Brockbank We are Building a Community that Cares, Engaging in Lifelong Learning, Setting Goals for Growth and Success, and Taking Ownership for My choices!" We will be doing a lot of activities that will help us learn our new motto and mission statement this year!

The Learner Powers are an important part of Building Learning Capacity. The Learner Powers are Reflect, Question, Connect, Think, Be Self Aware, Wonder and Be Determined.
The Learning Process is another essential learning strategy that is intentionally taught to enable learners to proactively advance their own learning, problem find and problem solve creatively and face their changing future with confidence. The Learning Process develops learners 'Meaning Making' capacity and ability to think.

Riverview’s learning philosophy rests on the four vision principles - Building Learning Capacity, Collaborating, Making Meaning and Break Through. The focus on developing learners’ capacity to thrive in tricky situations - knowing what to do when they don’t know what to do - is valued highly. Teachers explicitly teach learners strategies to get out of ‘I’m stuck’ situations. Being stuck is celebrated and harnessed as an opportunity to build each individual’s learning capacity. We have learner powers that are integrated into all learning. The Learner Powers are an important part of Building Learning Capacity and are Reflect, Question, Connect, Think, Be Self Aware, Wonder and Be Determined.
Hello, this is Alesha LeMmon. I am the assistant principal and I will be sending newsletters out this year to keep you informed. We hope you have had the opportunity to go online and register your student. If not, please take time to complete this process as soon as possible so everything will be ready for your student to hit the ground running at SFJHS this year. If you have scheduling concerns, counselors will be available this week from 1:00pm through 2:30pm Wednesday, 9:00am-2:30pm Thursday, and 9:00am-11:30am on Friday. A $5.00 class change fee will be charged except for incomplete schedules. Our school counselors will handle all schedule changes. Please note that not all schedule changes can be accommodated due to the number and times of sections offered as well as class size concerns.
Attention ALL 7th Grade Parents/Guardians: As of today there are 124-7th graders, 7-8th graders and 3-9th graders who have not completed and turned in their immunizations. Your student will not be able to attend school without having the required vaccination information on file. Parents are asked to hand deliver, mail, email, or fax in a copy of the immunization document from the Health Department or doctor’s office as proof of required vaccinations. Our fax number is 801-798-4097 or you can email our school nurse at Aubrey.firstname.lastname@example.org
9th Graders: We have a shortage of lockers for around 15 of our 9th grade students. If you plan to share with a friend or would like to, talk to Mrs. Hales or Ms. Nielson in counseling.

Parents and Students,
We are so excited to begin another great year of school here at Larsen Elementary. We are almost finished with this new registration process. I really wanted to thank you for your efforts and especially your patience. As with new things, it takes some getting used, so thanks again! I want to make you aware of important dates and also some great opportunities that you and your children can look forward to this year.
Open House will take place on Monday, August 21, from 3:30-5:30pm. Students will be able to come to the school and meet their teachers. The PTA will be set up in the front foyer with opportunities for parents to sign up and help out our school and classrooms in a variety of different ways. Make sure to sign up for as many activities as your schedule allows. They will also be selling school shirts. We have chosen to keep the same school shirt as last year. This year school hoodies will also be available for purchase.
We would like to thank the PTA for their great support. This year they are going to hold quarterly family activities at little to no cost. Families will be able to participate in game night, skate nights, and possibly a carnival paid for by the PTA. They are also providing a monthly parent date night where parents will have the opportunity to receive some training about the Leader in Me program. At Larsen we are working hard to help students realize and reach their full potential. Part of the way that we are doing this is through Steven Covey's Seven Habits. While we are not an official Leader in Me school at this time, we have chosen to continue trying to incorporate the language and principles that it teaches. The PTA was trained and is on board to help get parents up to speed so that we can all become familiar with the language. Look for fliers to inform you about the trainings, and hopefully this will be something that will be a benefit to you and your family. The First Day of School is August 22 for a First-Sixth Grades, with Kindergarteners beginning on August 29th. School begins at 8:30am, and ends at 2:45pm. Early Out days will still be held on Monday's. School ends at 2:00pm on these days so that teachers can hold their collaboration meetings. Afternoon kindergarten has a different start time on Mondays, so check the school website for a reminder of school start and end times. Make note that the school doors will remain locked until 8:00am during the school year. Students will be able to get breakfast at that time. Morning supervision begins at 8:05am, so just make note so that we can work together to keep all kids safe. For your information, our school website is updated regularly. To get the most recent and up to date information, access links, and check out all of the awesome things happening at school, check out the link: www.larsen.nebo.edu This is also the location where you will sign up for parent teacher conferences, find information about our after school programs, and access the Leopard Link. The Leopard Link is a monthly newsletter that I send out to keep you up to date on the things that have happened that month and important dates that will be coming in the month ahead. I am so grateful to be part of such a great community that cares about kids. We love having your children at Larsen, and we have a great staff that does their best to meet our students needs! Thanks for all of the great support! :)
