Veterans Visit Brockbank

Brockbank Elementary News - Tue, 11/21/2017 - 12:28am
(more pictures available)

Monday, November 13, Brockbank Elementary had some very special visitors come to our school to honor Veteran's Day. We are so proud of all of our veterans and enjoy having them come and talk to us each year. This year Brockbank students welcomed the veterans to our school by waving American Flags and giving them high fives while fifth grade students sang. The veterans introduced themselves to the students and showed a slide show presentation. It was a very touching assembly reminding us all why veterans are so important and about all the sacrifices that they have made for us so that we can be free.

  • Because of the amazing support of our students, community, and faculty the food drive was a huge success. Our school raised over 46,000 food items and over $4,000 for our local food bank. Part of the food drive cash donations are being used this week to provide 352 turkeys, 550 turkey tins, and 200 pound of yams to needy families this Thanksgiving. We easily surpassed our school goal of raising 25,000 food items. The food bank would like to sincerely thank everyone at our school for participating, and a special thank you to all those fun-loving, competitive faculty members who make our school's food drive such a good time. Here is the final tally of the top 10 classes:
  • Mr. Campbell - 8,441
  • Mr. Claybaugh - 6,422 items

Parents, Students, and Friends –

A Canvas Parent app is available for mobile devices. Parents can sign up as an observer in Canvas and link their account to their students’ accounts so they can see assignment details and due dates, announcements, assignment submissions from their students, and feedback from the teachers. Observers can view the course content, but cannot participate in the course. Follow the link to the school’s website for instructions to install and use Canvas. CANVAS: Parent Login Instructions. The Canvas login is also on the Parent and Student Information page of the school’s website.

We have started our CCR's (College and Career Readiness Plans) with our 8th grade students. We will be calling students down to meet up with their parents and counselors. This is a great time for our students to start thinking about what they want to do in the future.

Our current enrollment is 1254 students

902 students earned a spot on the honor roll. This is the highest number of student we have ever had! Last year, first term we 825 students earned that spot.

399 with 4.0 Academic Excellence

357 with 3.7 or above, High Honors

144 with 3.5 or above, Honors

Thank you to the students for their hard work and to all of the parents, teachers, and support staff that support them!

The idea behind a dress code is that appropriate student dress and grooming promotes an effective learning environment free from unnecessary disruption or distraction. We are seeing an increase in jeans with holes above the knee. The school policy states “no torn pants above the knee”. We do not send students home for a dress code violation. If a student’s clothing or grooming interferes with the normal education process, he/she will be asked to change whatever is in question.
