Mrs. Albertson's 5th Grade Class

Riverview Elementary News - Thu, 03/22/2018 - 4:47pm
Attributions: Mrs. Albertson

These pictures show one of my favorite things to do with the students. They each have a chance to read some of their writing in front of the class if they choose to do so. They are able to choose a free write, quick write, or other writing assignment they have worked on! They love to share with their peers and it is a good way to see where they are at in their writing without having to read every single paper! :)

Annie Play Performance

Sierra Bonita Elementary News - Wed, 03/21/2018 - 4:17pm

We are so excited for the 'Annie' play tonight. We appreciate all the support we receive each and every year. The play showtimes will be at 7pm tonight and tomorrow night only.

Due to the high attendance at our school plays, we ask that everyone be respectful and only save up to 4 seats. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Tickets will not be sold until 6:30pm as well. This allows the cast members to get things ready before the audience fills up the auditorium. Tickets are $1 and concessions will be available tonight as well.

We ask that everyone be seated by 6:55pm. This will allow us to assess the attendance and have everyone move to the center to fit in additional audience members.

The cast members have worked really hard and are very excited to show you their talents tonight.

Enjoy the show!

Our Career Day will go from 9:00-10:15 a.m.   The presentations will last 25 minutes and students will have the opportunity to choose two speakers from the list.  Please encourage your student to make good use of this time.  We have a wide variety of careers and hope that your student will take advantage of this opportunity to talk with professionals in a career they may want to pursue.  Our presenters are volunteering their time and we appreciate their efforts.

Our mini-career fair during lunch will have vendors from some local businesses who are currently hiring, cosmetology schools, military, MATC, and more.

SFJH Earns an Energy Star Certification from the EPA

Spanish Fork Junior High School News - Wed, 03/21/2018 - 8:20am
Attributions: by Rillene Nielsen

Spanish Fork Junior High was recently notified it had earned an Energy Star from the Environmental Protection Agency. Our building is now listed in their special registry.

In order to earn an Energy Star Certification, a building must score 75 or higher based on certain criteria. According to the EPA’s webpage, “A score of 50 represents median energy performance, while a score of 75 or better indicates your building is a top performer — and may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification.” Organizations, like schools, can earn this distinction “by reducing energy use through voluntary action, thus helping to decrease emissions of associated pollutants and their corresponding negative health and environmental impacts, such as those related to ozone, fine particles, acid rain, and regional haze.” Because we have been vigilant in our efforts to conserve energy, we were able to earn a top score.

SFJH Lobos believes we have a responsibility strengthen the community—our pack. Saving energy is a great way to live the Lobo way.

To find out more about the Energy Star certification, go to www.energystar.gov/buildinglist.

Energy Incentive Challenge

East Meadows Elementary News - Tue, 03/20/2018 - 2:06pm

Recently our district applied to earn the Energy Star Certification. We sent in Energy Star applications for 44 of our facilities and ALL 44 qualified. This is an amazing feat because in order to qualify a building must score in the top 75 percentile compared against other schools in the nation.  Our district average score was 99, with many schools scoring a perfect 100.

The certification process for Energy Star is not an easy one. Air quality, lighting quality, and the overall Energy Use Index readings and calculations of each facility are taken into account. This data, along with many other data points, are used to compare our K-12 facility to other K-12 facilities throughout the country. We then receive a score based on the grading criteria outlined by Energy Star.

We feel like this is something to celebrate. A lot of patrons, students, and employees will see this as a great win for the school district. With the 44 Energy Star Certifications earned, we have the most certified facilities out of any organization in the state of Utah. This makes us an Energy Star leader in the state!
