WEEK NINE - OCTOBER 16TH - 18TH

Riverview Elementary News - Mon, 10/16/2017 - 12:00am
Attributions: Principal Moment

There are certain triggers that always wind children up: rain clouds, wind, a close game in PE, and – the week before Halloween. The closer the calendar gets to that day, the more bonkers children become.

To be perfectly fair, it’s not completely the kids’ fault that they can’t stay focused. Teachers are partly to blame. We read aloud Halloween stories, draw haunted houses, sing “pumpkin carols,” and graph candy corn.

On Halloween, we will begin our morning with a Halloween parade. Into the school on Halloween morning will walk Superman, a clown, an angel, some devils, the Disney princesses will be present, maybe an astronaut, a pack of Ninjas, Darth Vader, and possibly some pirates.

We will be parading outside this year. We invite you to drop your children off, find a parking stall, pull out the lawn chairs, choose a good seat on the parade route and stay for the “Monster March.” Students will assemble in their classroom and after the morning bell and announcements, we will begin our parade. The ghouls and goblins will exit from the school, parade around the sports park, re-enter and parade through the halls; dropping each class off at their classroom door.

Afternoon Kindergarten will begin their parade at 12:30 p.m. They will parade around the Kindergarten Playground.

Come watch the fun!

Check out spoooooky Riverview RAM scarecrow this Halloween season. Our entry in the Spanish Fork City Scarecrow Contest is directly in front of Central Bank on Main Street. Don’t forget to vote for our scarecrow. The winner gets $100 and bragging rights!

Ms. B, our school counselor, has been teaching us about being proactive vs. reactive. During Lighthouse Leaders we learned what it means to be proactive, and that sometimes we have the choice in a situation to be proactive or reactive. Her lesson was followed up the following week during our Leadership Sendoff with what being reactive can look like. What a great obeject lesson with Diet Coke and Mentos. Thank you, Ms. B!

Survey for Nebo School District

Sierra Bonita Elementary News - Fri, 10/13/2017 - 3:45pm
Attributions:

Dear Parent: Nebo School District sincerely appreciates your support of Nebo School District and the opportunity to work together with you to provide an exceptional education for our students. We would appreciate your input on the Bond Survey before October 31. Please go to www.nebo.edu to begin the survey. Nebo School District is in the initial planning process for a Bond Election to be held next year on November 6, 2018. Bonding is the primary method school districts use to construct new schools and meet other facility priorities. Bond money cannot be used for salaries and benefits. Based on previous community feedback of wanting to move to the middle school model, Nebo School District plans to ask patrons to approve a $298 million dollar bond in November 2018. This tax-rate-neutral (no tax rate increase) bond will be used for: 1.   Building three new middle schools for students in sixth and seventh grade. These middle schools will be located within the boundaries of Salem Hills High, Springville High, and Maple Mountain High. As the new middle schools are completed, Mt. Nebo Junior High and Diamond Fork Junior High will become middle schools; 2.   Rebuilding Payson High, Spanish Fork High, and Springville High; and 3.    Making improvements to existing buildings and sites. It is estimated that approximately $10 million dollars of bond funds will be focused on upgrades and improvements. The Nebo School Board's decision on which projects to include will rely on public input and recommendations from parent committees. In accordance with state law, the Nebo School Board will finalize all plans prior to the 2018 Bond Election so the voting public will know the specific plans before voting. In the coming months, please continue to look for additional bond information at www.nebo.edu and in meetings held throughout Nebo School District. Again, Nebo School District sincerely appreciates your input and support of Nebo School District. Please go to www.nebo.edu to begin the survey.
