Late Tuesday evening Mrs. Burr sent out a message to our students and parents, "Families displaced by the fires need our help, bring items to school Wednesday morning to be donated to families and volunteer firefighers." The response was amazing! With such a short amount of time to bring items in we still had enough items to fill two trucks full. Thanks for your amazing support, we live in a wonderful community.

Principal Moment

School pictures will be taken tomorrow, Thursday, September 20th.  Since I started teaching, there are certain things about school photos that have never changed.  First is the envelope they arrive in.  It always has a window in it.  Through this window you get to see a third of your face, the top of your head, and one ear.  There is only one reason the envelopes have this window: to ease the shock.  The background in school photos hasn’t changed, either.  For as long as I can remember, school pictures have had that same light blue background.  In fact, if Jeopardy! Ever posted “School Photos” as a category, I wouldn’t be surprised if the winning answer was “What is blue?”

Riverview Chalk Walk Fundraiser

Friday begins a very important, fun, healthy way to raise money for Riverview Elementary.

Riverview is raising money to fund field trips, assemblies, technology and classroom supplies.

We want to promote a healthy lifestyle to our students and the community.  Please help us reach our fundraising goal by supporting our Chalk Walk.

  • We have teamed up with The Get Movin’ Crew© to make this event fun and profitable.
  • Please help us by helping your child raise a total of $50.00 in donations.
  • It’s easy! Just help your child gather 5, $10.00 flat donations, or more.

We Need All Parents to Complete 3 Fast/Easy Online Steps!

  1. Register your Child by visiting Thegetmovincrew.com.  Your child(s) classroom teacher will send you information.  It's free, super easy, and takes only a few minutes!
  2. Share your child's student fundraising webpage via email to 10-15 friends and/or family. It’s super easy.
  3. Post on Facebook or Social Media. It's two clicks of a button to post. The average parent has 300 FB friends. You'll be surprised when donations come in from distant relatives/friends from HS/co-workers.  Post and see what happens!

Our total school goal is $50,000 - It is possible if each child brings in just 5, $10 flat donations!

Event details:

  • Kickoff Assembly: Friday, September 21st @ 2:00
  • Chalk Walk Date: Friday, October 5th from 1:30-3:00
  • Early Donation Due Date:  Monday, September, 24th, 2018

Spanish Fork Junior High’s annual Fall Hike took place on Wednesday Sept. 19th.  And those who boarded the bus this morning were in for a real treat.

We hiked to Stewart Falls up Provo Canyon above the Sundance Ski Resort.  The country we were hiking through was beautiful and the weather was perfect.  Stewart Fall is one of the most beautiful and picturesque place along the Wasatch Front.  The waterfall is over two hundred feet high and flows over two tiers.  The fall colors can be magnificent.

Once at the falls, many brave students tested out the water under the water fall and had a great time.  All made it back safely.  It’s awesome to be able to enjoyable day out in the beautiful Utah Mountains!

Fourth Grade Students Learn About Storm Water

Brockbank Elementary News - Wed, 09/19/2018 - 3:44pm

Thursday, Sept 13, fourth grade students participated in a storm water presentation. They learned all about the "villains" that we put into out storm drains, and how they affect our clean drinking water. They also learned ways to help keep our water clean.

The students took turns adding some of those villains to our drinking water. Some villains include oil, grass clippings, gas, paint, soap, and fertilizer. In the end, we had "Pollution Punch". Students were encouraged to remind their parents of steps they can take to help keep our drinking water clean.   If you have a fourth grader ask them about some of these villains, and how you can do your part to help prevent water pollution!

Dancing to Learn at Spanish Oaks Elementary

Spanish Oaks Elementary had a Nebo District Dance Specialist visit last week as part of the the Nebo GAINS (Growing Arts INebo Schools) program, sponsored by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program.  Specialist, Melanie Fillmore, visited with classroom teachers and students offering ideas for the use of dance and movement as a vehicle for engaged learning.  You won't believe what our students danced about!  See below then ask your student for more details ...

  • 1st grade:  Did you know that "Plants Can't Sit Still?"  It's true.  They are always in motion and your first grader can show you!
  • 2nd grade:  Different habitats each have their own unique features and animals.  We used different kinds of dance energies and styles to reflect the beauty of each habitat.
  • 3rd grade:  3rd grade broke a few rules and danced all kinds of prepositions with their chairs!  On, across, under, next to, away from, over, etc.!  Find a safe space and try it at home.
  • 4th and 5th grade learned about Personal Space and Shared Space and how it applies to the author's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person Points of View.
  • 6th grade played different dance games, practiced sequencing and had an organized "dance party" to get warmed up for a year of dance at Spanish Oaks.

It makes you wonder if perhaps the best learning takes place when students AREN'T sitting still!
