Choir uniform fees were due, back to Mr. Guthrie, on Friday 15, for the Chamber Singers, Bella Voce, and Concert Choir. Make sure you turn them in because you want to make sure you have a uniform for the concerts. To turn in your fees, you go to the finance office to pay them, then give Mr. Guthrie the receipt so he knows you paid the amount due.

You need the uniforms because we are getting to the point where we are going to do our first concert on October 17th and we have many more to come.

Choir has prepared 14 songs for you and if you want a sneak peak, you can check it out at http://www.salemjhchoir.org/concert-songs.html

Math department multiplies again, welcome Mrs. Claire Taylor

Springville High School News - Fri, 09/22/2017 - 2:23pm

We’d like to welcome Mrs. Claire Taylor as one of our new math teachers teaching Math 1 and Math 3. This is her first year teaching; however, as a BYU student, she student taught at American Fork High where she taught US History, Asian Studies, and Chemistry.

“I think teenagers are fantastic. There's a lot going on for them, but they are working on skills and getting it," said Taylor.

Taylor said that one of her most rewarding teaching experiences is when a student struggles, finds success, and then smiles. It is priceless and very motivating.

“I have personally witnessed how awesome the faculty, staff, and students Springville High School can be, a couple of years ago I got a phone call from a mom whose child was struggling in math and wanted to know if I could help this student. I met with them at the Springville High counseling office, and we talked about some changes that could be made. Every one of them was eager to help, but that's not all.  As we went from class to class we saw students that came up and hugged this student, asked how things were going. "How have you been? I haven't seen you! What's up?" I walked away from Springville High School so impressed that day,” said Taylor.

She’s been married for 21 years to her husband Bryan, who is a really thoughtful, hard-working, and capable.

Together they have five children, four boys and one girl. Two of her children graduated from Springville High. Taylor attends SHS football games, track meets, wrestling matches, swim meets, intramural volleyball tournaments, and any choir or drama performances she can.

She likes to read and solve New York Times crossword puzzles. Listening to music is one of her pastimes as well as watching college football. She enjoys just about any food, especially made by one of her four younger sisters. She’s traveled to many different places and has witnessed other cultures. She collects art and Christmas ornaments from the places she travels to.

Claire graduated from Sugar Land High School in a town outside of Houston.

“It was a great place to grow up and I have many friends still in that area,” said Taylor.

The most unusual job she had was working at a nightclub in Houston. She knew the owner and helped with accounting. The best perk was the concerts in which she met performers and musicians.

“I’ve dreamed of being a backup singer my whole life, but for now I am really happy to teach math at Springville High School!” said Taylor.

Girls tennis plays hard against Diamond Fork

Salem Junior High School News - Fri, 09/22/2017 - 12:28pm
Attributions: Diamond Fork Jr High invaded Spartan country on Tues, Sept 19, but they were repulsed by our varsity and JV tennis teams.  The varsity squad took four of five matches, only dropping the #2 doubles spot.  The JV team swept all five matches.  The coaches say that the girls will have to keep working hard and not let the win get to their heads because stiffer challenges remain, but they are proud of the team and happy with their performance.   Match of the day goes to Emilee Nicholls who played very well against a hard hitting opponent in the #2 singles spot.
