Our Kindergartners went for a trip around the country in their super speedy Kindy 500 cars. Their trip started off with a Kindy 500 parade for the school showing off their cool cars. Then they drove their Kindy cars to different stops and learned all about our National Symbols. They visited the Statue of Liberty, the White House, and learned all about the Bald Eagle to name a few spots. Our Kindergartners had a great trip!

Third Graders at Canyon just completed RadKids. In this class children gain valuable lifesaving skills as they learn to recognize, avoid, resist and escape from danger.  In radKIDS, children learn from a comprehensive curriculum that addresses school safety, bullying, home safety, fire safety, bike safety, dog safety, out and about safety, strangers, how and when to call 911, good/bad/uncomfortable touch to name a few. After each subject is taught we practice safety drills so they get a chance to practice what they are learning. Additionally children learn physical resistance skills to help them stop violence and escape to safety should they encounter physical harm or danger.  Essentially, children in this program are physically trained how to be safe, not just told how.

PTA INFO:

Hi! Congratulations on a very successful Spring Fundraiser! We thought our wonderful supportive parents and Taylor Tiger supporters would like to know what we are using the money that has been raised with our two fundraiser.  This year we will be able to significantly improve classrooms with new white boards and help with new kindergarten playground equipment. The teachers all voted on what they needed and they are so excited to be able to receive this for their classrooms. We are so grateful and absolutely thrilled with the amazing support we have received.

Our spring fundraiser was FANTASTIC! We are amazed and so happy so many of you donated to our easiest fundraiser ever! Apparently, you, like us, are more than happy to support our great school by not having “any strings attached” and we are so pleased with the results.Mrs Provstgaard and Mrs Whicker tied for first place with every single student returning their envelopes! Yahoo!!!! Way to go! We will be providing their classes with root beer float parties on Wednesday March 28.There were many classes who were very close to winning. Congrats to everyone.

We will be having our teacher appreciation week April 16-20. There will be lunches, a dessert bar, a PTA breakfast, an extended lunch day with the room moms taking over the class for a half hour  and treats for the teachers every day that week.  We encourage you to recognize our fabulous teachers and staff during the week of our “super hero teachers”.

We appreciate all the Monday Munchies and PTA lunches, Hero Night, book fairs, class parties, field trips, teacher appreciation, spirit days and so much more that parents have helped with so far this year. Thank you so much.

Check out our PTA bulletin board across from the front office. It has all the current events displayed as well as our “volunteers of the month” which Mrs Robbins reads over the intercom and then we post their info on our board! If you want to be more involved with PTA please email us at cathipta@gmail.com. Look for us on FB and IG as well under Taylor PTA. Please like and share!!We love our volunteers!         ~Cathi Chisholm

Energy Incentive Challenge

Larsen Elementary News - Tue, 03/27/2018 - 2:09pm

Recently our district applied to earn the Energy Star Certification.  We sent in Energy Star applications for 44 of our facilities and ALL 44 qualified.  This is an amazing feat because in order to qualify a building must score in the top 75 percentile compared to other schools around the nation.  Our district average score was 99, with many schools scoring a perfect 100.

This certification process for Energy Star is not an easy one.  Air quality, lighting quality, and the overall Engery Use Index readings and calculations of each facility are taken into account.  This data, along with many other data points, are used to compare our K-12 facility to other K-12 facilities throughout the country.  We then receive  a score based on the grading criteria outlined by Energy Star.

Way to go Nebo School District! We are an  Energy Star leader in the state.

Every morning you can hear Phyliis’ cheerful “ good morning! It’s going to be a great day! “ as she comes down the hall after arriving to school. She approaches teaching with an enthusiasm and exciting energy that can’t help but inspire you as a member of her team. She has a song for everything and  is happy and positive. I don’t believe that any other Kindergarten has more celebrations during the year than Mt Loafer Kindergarten has. She makes teaching and going to Kindergarten so much fun. She goes above and beyond in any assignment given to her, as we as a school have seen when she is involved in Red Ribbon week, friendship week, and currently our new reading board outside of the office. Mt Loafer is very lucky to have such a teacher who truly has created a legacy to remember in our school.
