We had a great Math Pumpkin activity!  We predicted, measured, weighed, and guessed how many pumpkin seeds there were in our pumpkins.  Then we counted out the number of seeds in our pumpkins by putting the seeds into groups of 10.  It is always amazing to everyone that just because a pumpkin is bigger than another, it doesn't mean that it is going to have more seeds that a smaller pumpkin.

PTA Cookie Dough Fundraiser

Rees Elementary News - Mon, 11/06/2017 - 11:44am

They say cookies make the world a better place. That is why the PTA is selling cookie dough from Pizza Factory this year. This is a great fundraising opportunity with a fun, quality product, and half the funds collected going to the PTA.  The money raised helps support PTA activities and sponsored events like: Book Fair, Teacher Appreciation Day, Family Activity Night, Box Tops, Reflections, SEP dinners and more!

The cookie dough is $15 for a 3 pound tub.  The PTA is asking students to collect orders and money from family and friends (no door to door sales) in the manila envelope that was sent out.   Once the orders are received and money collected, the cookie dough will be delivered before Christmas Break.

Cash and checks are accepted.  Please make sure checks are written out to "Rees Elementary PTA".  All orders are due November 10th!

We are grateful for our PTA and the many wonderful things they do to support students and teachers.  Thank you for your support of our PTA and school!

Monday – “Love yourself”  Wear RED

  • You will receive keys for the students to each write a drug free pledge on.  Have them write the pledge, cut out the key and take your class set to the office before lunch.  The PTA will come in that day and hang them up at the front of the school.
  • The kids will each receive a key on a red ribbon to tie onto their backpacks. The national theme is, “Your Future is Key, Stay Drug Free”.
  • Spanish Fork police department will be here to do an assembly to kick off the week.  We will begin at 1:25.  Have your class cleaned up before you come.  The assembly will go to the end of the day.

Tuesday – “Team up against drugs”  Wear your favorite sports attire

  • When your class goes to art this week they will paint a rock. We would like each child to bring in a small rock.  Each rock should be no larger than the size of an egg or the size of their palm.  This goes along with a book, Only One You, that the PTA has purchased. Plan a time on your art day that you can read the story to your class and we will pass it around. They will paint their rock and take it home to place somewhere as a reminder that they are important in making the world a better place.

Wednesday – Internet Safety – Wear WHITE and THINK

  • T-is it Truthful
  • H-is it Helpful
  • I-is it Inspiring
  • N-is it Necessary
  • K-is it Kind

Thursday – “Turn your back on drugs” Wear your shirt backwards

Friday – School Pride – Wear your school shirt or school colors

  • Cougar Pride assembly at 1:45 – I am assuming 30-45 minutes but I haven’t heard back from them about the details.

On Friday, November 3rd, Mrs. Brunt's class earned a class compliment party. We decided to have a straw tower building contest. In teams of 5, students had the task of building the tallest, free standing structure using straws and connectors. It was a very close race and the students learned that a large, solid base and teamwork were very important in being successful. These third graders had fun and are looking forward to the next challenge.

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Wilson Elementary News - Mon, 11/06/2017 - 9:04am
Attributions: www.theleaderinme.org/what-is-the-leader-in-me/

This year Wilson has become a Leader in Me School.  LIM teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

Content from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a key component of the overall The Leader in Me process. The 7 Habits is a synthesis of universal, timeless principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness, such as responsibility, vision, integrity, teamwork, collaboration and renewal, which are secular in nature and common to all people and cultures.

The Leader in Me is also aligned to many national and state academic standards. The process teaches students the skills needed for academic success in any setting. These skills include critical thinking, goal setting, listening and speaking, self-directed learning, presentation-making and the ability to work in groups. (theleaderinme.org)

For the month of November Students will be focused on learning about Habit 1: Be Proactive.

"I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.”
