Meet Ms. Boyer

Park Elementary News - Thu, 12/14/2017 - 12:51pm

Hello!

I am so excited to be joining the 6th grade team at Park Elementary. Although I am coming later in the school year, I have confidence we will have a great rest of the year. I am so excited to meet your child and get to know them.

A little about me..

I was born September 21st, 1995 in American Fork, Utah. I have moved several times and my family currently lives in London, England. I attended Brigham Young University and loved every minute of it. I am passionate about education and am excited to be a sixth grade teacher. Ever since I was little I have prized learning. My desire to learn has influenced every aspect of my life, including my desire to be a teacher. My grandmother was a teacher for 25 years and I hope to continue her legacy by serving the children I teach.

My teaching Philosophy

I believe in creating a community of learners where each child feels valued and able to grow as an individual. In order to do this, my classroom will need to be a safe environment where students feel comfortable with myself and their peers. I plan to create authentic learning experiences and reach each students’ diverse needs. I am excited to take part in Park’s unique leadership program and help students take charge of their own learning. Having met the sixth grade team and other faculty and staff, I am positive we will have a great experience.

I am so excited to jump in and work hard with each of my students and I look forward to meeting you!

Students at Barnett Elementary have been working hard this month to earn Brag Notes. When a student earns a brag note their name is added to the Principal’s 200 Club Board. Brag notes can be earned by living the 7 Habits, working hard in school, and being a good example of a leader just to name a few things. Once the board is full of student names we have a drawing for books and prizes. Here are our winners for the month of December. Thanks for making so many good choices Barnett Bulldogs!

5th Grade Reaction Time by Isaac Marshall

A couple days ago a scientist came in for a assembly to told about different types of matter and do some experiments.

One of my favorite experiments he did was when he mixed a lot of things in a huge glass container. After he put in the last ingredient, it foamed up and then overflowed and got all over. Another one that I liked was when he put different powders on three small glass plates with a tiny bit of alcohol he lit it on fire. The different fires were red, green, and amber. My favorite experiment that he did was he put two liquids in a bottle and it grew huge and created a solid. It was so cool!

After the assembly the classes took turns going into a classroom and doing experiments ourselves. When we came in we got split into several groups.  Each group had goggles for everybody  and six testing tubes and chemicals. We took turns mixing different chemicals and writing it down. I thought this was really fun because we got to participate and actually use chemicals and have fun mixing them together. When everybody was done, we mixed all five chemicals.  The result was that it exploded.  It was awesome!

Mrs. Deardeuff's class is doing a 12 (school) days countdown to Christmas break. On one of these days, they read "The Gingerbread Pirates", made gingerbread man ornaments and played a fun "Build-A-Gingerbread Man" game. Mrs. Deardeuff was even gracious enough to share her recipe for making gingerbread man ornaments. They smell amazing!

1 cup applesauce

2 Tbsp Elmer's glue

4 ish oz. cinnamon.

Mix ingredients, adding cinnamon until the dough is the consistency you want. Press flat on wax paper and use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out the shape. Use a straw to poke a hole through the top of the gingerbread man. Let sit out to dry for a few days.
