Nebo Heros at Art City Elementary School

Art City Elementary News - Tue, 10/17/2017 - 5:24pm
Attributions:

On October 8th, Art City teachers were seen wearing their "Nebo Hero" t-shirts,  We even spotted Mrs. Muirbrook serving lunch in her shirt.  Nebo School District Superintendent Rick Nielson knows what a hero is. He arranged to have every employee in the Nebo School District receive a "Nebo Hero" t-shirt and has requested that we wear them certain days of the month. On the front the shirt says, "Nebo Hero Nebo School District" and on the back it says, "Be your Best When it Matters Most". The acronym he uses for a HERO is as follows: H - Heroes Help people with no strings attached
E - Heroes create an Exceptional experience for the people they serve
R - Heroes take Responsibility for their attitude, actions and results
O - Heroes see life through the lens of Optimism

What Makes You Scream?

Art City Elementary News - Tue, 10/17/2017 - 5:15pm

What makes you want to SCREAM?  This month students in Ms. Larsen's and Mrs. Luther's class at Art City Elementary wrote about what makes them want to scream.  The students studied "The Scream" by Edvard Munch and used similar colors, lines and movement to create their own watercolor art.  With a digital camera the students pictures were taken recreating that famous scream face.  Their pictures were printed then cut out and glued onto their watercolor painting.  Students then wrote about what makes them scream and published their writing in the school computer lab. The project allowed students to use their photography, watercoloring, writing, computer and typewriting skills.  These works of art are displayed outside Ms. Larsen's and Mrs. Luther's third grade classroom and are making all of us at Art City wonder what we would "scream" about.

We were so lucky today to have an assembly today put on by some student athletes from Spanish Fork High School.

They did a great job and teaching our students to be kind and respectful to others.

They had some questions for the students "What would you do?" it made them think of how they would act in certain situations.

They taught them to THINK before they speak.

T= Is it True?

H=Is it Helpful?

I=Is it Inspiring?

N=Is it Necessary?

K=Is it Kind?

They also so taught "Don't Stand By" They should Stand Up, Stand Strong and Stand Together.

The students received a footprint to write a goal on and hang up. They really enjoyed this assembly!

Thanks to the awesome Counselors and students from Spanish Fork High School that put this assembly together for us!

They were introduced to the various habitats in Utah; and they were than given a variety of items to explore to determine which habitats they came from.  We were than introduced to animals from the wetlands and desert habitats.  We learned that to work at a zoo we need to get a college degree in a field like zoology and volunteer lots of time working with animals. Way to go Lions!

Buddy Bench

Canyon Elementary News - Tue, 10/17/2017 - 2:27pm
Attributions: Andria Lewis

A Buddy Bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendships on the playground.
 If a child goes and sits on the buddy bench, it's a signal to the other kids to ask him or her to play.  Canyon has had some amazing donors step up and donate enough funds for Canyon to receive its very own Buddy Bench!  Thank you to Russel Smith of Smith Steelworks (and his son, Preston) for donating their time and talents to making Canyon's Buddy Bench.  Today, our Student Council visited each classroom and explained what a Buddy Bench is to the students. We are all eager and excited to get it installed before the snow comes!  At this time, we are telling students that if they want to be part-owners of Canyon's Buddy Bench, they can donate any spare change they might have, if they can.   Our Buddy Bench is for everyone at Canyon to enjoy, for years to come!
