Salem Cemetery Learning Experience

Salem Elementary News - Tue, 10/24/2017 - 2:44pm
(more pictures available)

Fourth graders walked up to the Salem City Cemetery last week to participate in several learning activities. Students used subtraction to solve and find how many years people lived, looked for people who had served in the military, and also tried to find the person who was born the earliest in history.

Students observed the plants and animals that they saw, as well as the weather and clouds.  They also looked for unique designs on headstones and did pencil rubbings.

Finally, students wrote about the thoughts and feelings they had while visiting the cemetery. It was a beautiful day to not only learn, but to honor those who are laid to rest in our city's cemetery.

District Survey:
Dear Parent:

Nebo School District sincerely appreciates your support of Nebo School District and the opportunity to work together with you to provide an exceptional education for our students. We would appreciate your input on the Bond Survey before October 31. Please go to to begin the survey.

Nebo School District is in the initial planning process for a Bond Election to be held next year on November 6, 2018. Bonding is the primary method school districts use to construct new schools and meet other facility priorities. Bond money cannot be used for salaries and benefits.

Based on previous community feedback of wanting to move to the middle school model, Nebo School District plans to ask patrons to approve a $298 million dollar bond in November 2018. This tax-rate-neutral (no tax rate increase) bond will be used for:

1.   Building three new middle schools for students in sixth and seventh grade. These middle schools will be located within the boundaries of Salem Hills High, Springville High, and Maple Mountain High. As the new middle schools are completed, Mt. Nebo Junior High and Diamond Fork Junior High will become middle schools;

2.   Rebuilding Payson High, Spanish Fork High, and Springville High; and

3.    Making improvements to existing buildings and sites. It is estimated that approximately $10 million dollars of bond funds will be focused on upgrades and improvements.

The Nebo School Board's decision on which projects to include will rely on public input and recommendations from parent committees.

In accordance with state law, the Nebo School Board will finalize all plans prior to the 2018 Bond Election so the voting public will know the specific plans before voting. In the coming months, please continue to look for additional bond information at and in meetings held throughout Nebo School District.

Again, Nebo School District sincerely appreciates your input and support of Nebo School District. Please go to to begin the survey.

We invite you to LIKE us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as our own Brockbank website!  Follow us on Instagram--#Brockbankbest, #Lookatbrockbank, and #BrockbankBFF

This group of Spanish speaking students will come once a week for a half hour to help our students with reading or math, regardless of whether our students speak Spanish or English. The Latinos In Action group set such a good example to our students of helping one another and working hard even when learning a second language. Thanks for your service!
