This week Westside was visited by the dance company Ririe Woodbury, who performed during an exicting assembly. Students learned about the elements of dance and watched them exemplified by company members, then several students were invited up on the stage to dance too. As a culmination of their learning, all of the students were given the opportunity to follow movemnets of dance from their seats on the floor.

Faculty vs. 6th grade Kickball

Last week Westside held our first faculty vs. 6th grade game of the year. This one was a kickball game, and the teachers even had a surprise guest player - Mr. Fox came to play! Everyone put forth a lot of effort and had a great time.

4th and 6th Grades Visit Jordanelle Dam

Larsen 4th and 6th graders and the unique opprotunity to visit the Jordanelle Dam and take a tour of the sight sponsored by CUWCD .  Students were able to learn how they use water to create electricity.  The Jordanelle Dam Hydropower plant is a green power source—it leaves no carbon footprint. Hydropower is one of the most efficient ways to generate energy.   After touring the Dam the students were provided lunch and even got some prizes to take home.  Thank you CUWCD for letting Larsen Elementary visit.

Our praise note students for this week are Cosette Lee, Alora Taylor, Eliza Baker, Lewis Talbot, Maxx Mancebo, Hildy Mangum, Andres Solorio, Mia Ollerton, Jeryck McCoy, Caroline Poole, Jens Cutler, Sophia Melendez, Jacob Hill, Luke Hudson, Corbin Moore, Jane Thompson, Sadie Parker, Caleb Salmond, Garvyn Vanpatten, Kaleb Rivas, Johnny Pickering, Liesel Scott, Dylan Keith, Maggie Brooks, Jacynet Delgado, Talon Keith, Alexa Laneres, and Evee Fullmer.

Some of the good things we have seen this week: "Helping others and doing her best work", "taking time with math work and being a good friend", "really tries to improve in writing", "friendly to everyone", "showed patience when her Egyptian artifact was knocked to the floor several times by accident", "always trying to make the classroom better", "helped during a game at recess", "helps without being asked", "asked for permission", "has a positive attitude", "trys hard at writing", "memorizing math facts", " patient and helpful to others", "helped others with research", and "walked quietly in the halls".

4th Grade at the Bean Museum

Last week, fourth grade students were able to take yet another field trip to the BYU Bean Museum. They were able to see animals in their environments and learn about different adaptations. The Museum of Peoples and Cultures was also a part of the field trip and the students' favorite part was the arrowhead they got to find and take home!

On Wednesday, Salem Elementary students received a wonderful surprise.  Harward Farms donated a pumpkin to each student in the school.  Students were grinning from ear to ear as they got to take a pumpkin home. Thank you Harward Farms!

The 2nd Grade had a great time on their field trip today to see "Captain Louie" at the Scera Theatre.  After the play they were able to ask the actors and actresses questions about performing in a play.

Jog-a-Thon GRAND Total

We are SO excited to announce the final total for our very first school fund-raiser Jog-a-Thon.  Drum roll please . . . .  Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to raise $5,019.90 for Spanish Oaks Elementary!  All of this money will go directly to the school to purchase guided reading books and technology for student use in classrooms.  A huge "shout out" to WalMart in Payson for their support through donations of water bottles, fruit snacks and granola bars to refuel all our runners.  It was an amazing day, and we are so grateful for your continued support!
