Who Is This New Teacher At Brookside?

Brookside Elementary News - Tue, 08/28/2018 - 1:32pm
Attributions: Mrs. Liz Porter

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona with my three siblings and parents. I am the aunt to two nieces, who just started Kindergarten, and two nephews, one who just started preschool and another who was born at the beginning of August. I love to be with my family and make fun memories with them. I recently was married to my husband Tyler Willis. We just moved this summer to Utah so my husband can go to school at BYU.

Some of the things that I love to do are swim, read, travel, watch sports, and go on adventures. This summer I had the opportunity to see Mayan ruins in Mexico and it was amazing! I have also loved traveling to Thailand and around Europe.

I graduated from Brigham Young University where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in TESOL. My first year teaching I taught first grade at Riverview Elementary School in Spanish Fork. After my first year I moved back to Arizona to teach and be closer to my family. For the past three years I taught first grade at Kyrene de la Estrella Elementary School in Phoenix. After choosing to return to Utah I was very excited to be given the opportunity to teach first grade for my fifth year once again in the Nebo School District. I can't wait to make many great memories at Brookside Elementary!

Brockbank Bulletin

Brockbank Elementary News - Tue, 08/28/2018 - 7:33am

Hello, Brockbank Families!

Our first week back to school went so well!  We appreciate your support and help as we are getting the school year rolling along!  It has been wonderful to have the students back to school and to see their bright, cute faces!

We want to welcome our Kindergarten students that will be coming tomorrow!  Just as a reminder, Kindergarten goes from 8:45-11:20-AM, and 12:20-3:00-PM.  On Mondays, it will go from 8:45-11:00-AM, and 12:00-2:15-PM.

We appreciate all that our PTA has done to help get this year started off so well!  We have fabulous parents and we are so grateful for all they do!  If you have not joined PTA yet, there is still time!  Please join!  The first PTA meeting will be tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2:00.

School T-Shirts:  School T-shirts can still be purchased!  The last day will be Wednesday, August 29th.  Thanks to Amy Engle for taking care of our school shirts!

Summer Reading:  We are excited for our POP INTO READING Party!  For those students that read and kept track on their special POP INTO READING Calendar, we will be having our party on Sept. 5th.  Make sure that your calendar is signed by a parent and turned in by Aug. 30th!

Reflections:  We are so excited for our Reflections Contest that is going on NOW!  The theme is, “Heroes Around Me!” Please encourage your child to get involved and participate in this fun event!  We want to thank Cindy Shepherd for helping us with this, and if you have any questions, please contact her at

Picture Day:  September 11 will be our Picture Day!  Lifetouch will be taking the pictures for our school!  Packets will be coming home soon with information!

Orchestra: For those interested in Orchestra, please read the attachment!  It’s a great opportunity for our students!

Fire Drill:  We had our first fire drill today and it was a great success!  The students were careful and followed procedures given by their teachers!  We appreciate their cooperation!

Bond Presentation: There will be a special Bond Community Presentation at Salem Hills High School, at 6:00pm for those interested in receiving more information about the School Bond.

Just a couple of things to remember for your child’s safety:

Please check in at the office when you come to the school!

We are really stressing to our students to be safe before and after school.  If you pick up our child, PLEASE do not cross in the middle of the road with your child.  We are trying to get everyone to cross at the intersection.  Please set an example and cross with your child at the intersection.

Please make sure to be polite and courteous when driving and picking up your child.  Take your time and DO NOT park and get out of your car along 300 West.  We need to keep that area moving to get cars in and out.

Please do not park along the areas where the buses come in.  There are cones along the areas where we do not want cars.  If you want to park in a parking stall, that is fine, but make sure you get out of your car and walk your child back to your car.  We do not want children crossing alone where the buses come in.

If you did not get a school magnet, please grab one from the office!

We invite you to LIKE us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as our own Brockbank website!  Follow us on Instagram--#Brockbankbest, #Lookatbrockbank, and #BrockbankBFF

Thanks for being the BEST!  We look forward to a fantastic year!

 Mrs. Nelson

(more pictures available)

We are excited to welcome three new teachers to Rees Elementary this year.

Ashley Roberts has been teaching for 7 years, and she is excited to join us in 2nd grade.  Ashley grew up in Lake Shore, attended UVU and is married with 2 kids.  They enjoy hunting and camping as a family.  Her favorite children's books are Amelia Bedelia.  One of her bucket list items is to go to New Zealand.  Her favorite treat is Diet Coke.  She is excited to be at Rees and we are thrilled to have her!

Arianna Bates is interning this year in our Special Ed. department.  She grew up in SLC and went to East High. She will graduate from BYU at the completion of her year here.  She lived in Frankfurt, Germany for two years whilse serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.   She loves to read, watch movies and do genealogy.  A bucket list item of hers is to be a wedding crasher and photobomb new couples getting married.  Her favorite treat is brownies and ice cream.  She is a great addition to our staff and we are happy to have her join us.

Clarissa Putnam joins us in Kindergarten this year.  Clarissa is splitting her day between here and Brockbank Elementary and we appreciate her willingness to do both.  She was born in California but moved to Sandy, Utah when she was just a baby.  Clarissa has three older siblings- 2 sisters and 1 brother. They are all married and have kids. She is positive that she is the favorite aunt! (10 and counting)  Clarissa loves to hike, swim, read, watch movies, play with her nieces and nephews, and four-wheel.  She loves Mexican food and basically any candy! She says "she is addicted to ice water (weird, I know.)"  On her bucket list is to travel Europe, skydive, visit the 7 wonders, and own a library like Beast in Beauty and the Beast.  Clarissa loves teaching because she gets to be with kids ALL DAY! "I love their energy, quick wits, and ability to love and laugh every minute of every day!"  We are so happy to have Clarissa and have appreciated HER energy and ability to laugh.
