We Learn: Kindergarten Plays With Motion

Cherry Creek Elementary News - Wed, 04/25/2018 - 9:34am
Attributions: by Chelsie Bergera

Last week, Discovery Gateway Children's Museum brought their Potential Energy program to the kindergarten students and taught them about force and motion. The students had fun learning about push and pull with a couple different hands-on experiments. By synergizing and working as a team, they were able to play tug-of-war, move a balloon without touching it, and make their hover crafts move in a perfect circle.

Principal Newsletter April 23rd - 27th

Riverview Elementary News - Tue, 04/24/2018 - 5:32pm

Principal Moment

“Ask not what your secretary can do for you, but what you can do for your secretary!”

It’s funny how principals think they are in charge, but everyone knows that the people who really run a school are the secretaries.  If you have questions, ask the secretary.  If you lose something, see the secretary.  If the copier is jammed, get the secretary.  If a child throws up, send her to the secretary.

Mrs. Tricia Nielson and Mrs. Aubree Barnum are our school secretaries.  Everyone should try to make friends with these wonderful secretaries; you will need them more than you ever know.  They are the backbone of the school.

Wednesday is Secretary’s Day.  Happy Secretary’s Day to these wonderful ladies, you are amazing and we love you!

PTA Events

The PTA created a great week last week!  We had three fun events; the bookfair, the art show and the family skate night!  On behalf of Riverview, I extend my “Thank You!”  The true beneficiaries of your efforts are the students at Riverview Elementary School.

Please come and enjoy:

Games and Activities from 5:30 to 8PM

Silent Auction from 5:30 to 7:30PM

Food will be served from 5:30 to 8PM

Discount Tickets are available for purchase this week, April 23 – April 27 in the front office. For every 10 tickets purchased this week, you will receive 2 free tickets. That’s $5 for 12 tickets!

On the day of the Carnival tickets will only be available for purchase at the Carnival .

They will be $5 for 10 tickets.

EVERY STUDENT WILL RECEIVE ONE FREE TICKET from their teacher to use towards any food or activity!

There will be a silent auction for the awesome themed baskets that have been donated and carefully prepared by each class, as well as other great items. There will also be drawings for grand prizes.........................................................!

New This Year - Online Donations

This year your friends and family from out of town can participate by donating money to our cause online! To donate online simply go to the following link - www.RiverviewRamsPTA.blogspot.com. For every dollar donated online the donor can select a student who will have an extra ticket placed in the bike raffle. So if grandma donates $20, her grandchild has 20 more chances to win the bike!!!

Waivers (Online too!)

It is required that all participants of the Carnival activities complete a waiver. Waivers will be sent home with each student, please complete the waiver and return it to your child's teacher or the office. -OR- you can go online to fill out a waiver.

Go to https://goo.gl/forms/7yxlrMvWC9CDq3fU2

Parents and caregivers don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and blankets so you can watch the children having fun outsideJ

The yearbooks have been ordered and are currently being printed.  The PTA have ordered some extra books, BUT not a lot.  If you would still like a book, you may purchase one for $15 through the office or Lifetouch’s website at YBPay.lifetouch.com.  Enter code: 10708318.  The books will be delivered the last week of school.

Teacher requests for 2018-2019

Teacher requests will be open from Monday, April 30th to Friday, May 4th.  Forms will be available in the front office during this week only.

Library Books

The final day for book check out in both the main library and take home this year is Friday, May 4th.  All books are expected to be returned to the library no later than Friday, May 11.

To encourage students to bring their books in or pay for lost/damaged books on time, Mrs. Downey and Mrs. Marsigli are holding a little contest.  The first class in each grade to have all of their library books returned or lost/damaged fines paid (meaning main library and take home books) will receive donuts!  That's right, there will be 7 class winners, one from each grade.

In addition to the donuts contest, they are going to be holding a weekly drawing for each grade for the rest of the school year.  This is how it works:

Each week in library if a student does not have any overdue books or returns their overdue books that class period, they will receive a ticket to fill out and place in the drawing basket for their grade. The overdue books include main library and take home library. On Monday mornings, Mrs. Downey will draw a winner from each grade to come down and select a book or reading buddy (stuffed animals that coordinates with a book). They'll be holding this contest each week for the rest of the school year.

Sage Creek Earns Energy Star Rating (again!)

Sage Creek Elementary News - Tue, 04/24/2018 - 4:54pm

We are proud to announce that our school has earned the Energy Star Rating again this year.  ENERGY STAR certified buildings and plants use, on average, 35 percent less energy than similar buildings nationwide. The cost savings can be substantial.   For more than 20 years, the US Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program has identified the most energy-efficient products, buildings, plants, and new homes – all based on the latest government-backed standards.  Congratulations, Sage Creek!

4th Grade Field Trip

East Meadows Elementary News - Tue, 04/24/2018 - 2:04pm
(more pictures available)

Our 4th graders had a great time on thier field trip. They went to the Spanish Fork Sports Park.

While they were there Patrick Hogle came and talked to the students about fossils and brought rocks for them to split and were able to look for fossils. Every student got a fossil! They also painted shirts that they are going to wear for their school program. They hiked and went on a scavenger hunt along the river trail!

The students had a great time and we appreciate all those who helped to make this field trip a success!

I hope you are enjoying all the things that springtime brings!  I love the blue sky and sunshine, and the green grass and tulips that are popping up!  It’s a beautiful time of year!

Parents, this time of year is especially busy, as you well know!  Please read the bulletin carefully!  I think every day in May has a scheduled event!  We are excited as we begin to wind down the school year and have such special activities!

Track Meets:  Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be having our Track Meets for grades 3-6.  All the track meets will be at the Spanish Fork High School football field.  Here are the dates for those meets:
April 24-3rd Grade

Please make sure your child has water, comfortable clothing, good running shoes and a jacket.

Ms. Jensen’s Science Fair: We are looking forward to Ms. J’s class’ Science Fair!  This will be Friday, the 27th from 1:30-2:30.  This should be a lot of fun and we are excited to see what her class has to share!

Year-End SAGE Testing:  April 9th will be the beginning of our SAGE Testing in grades 3-6.  Teachers will be testing over the course of several weeks.  Your child will not be testing every day, however, it is imperative that he/she is at school, whether his/her class is reviewing and/or testing.  If your child is going to be absent during this testing period, please notify your child’s teacher so he/she can make arrangements for alternate days of testing.  First and Second grades will be testing April 23-May 11th, and the Kindergarten Assessment will be May 21-25.

PTA:  Parents, we need your help!  We need more parents to get involved with PTA!  This is such a great organization and the PTA does so much for our students, but we need all the help we can get!  We know it takes a village to raise a child, and PTA makes it possible to help make this happen!  PTA volunteers are there to support students make good progress with their academics, with activities, with needed items for our school, and with support for families.  Please come be a part of our PTA!  Contact Brenda Dudley for more information with how you can help!
